Gundam 00

Ability Changes: Abilities are mostly limited to mecha, though people with aptitude for psychic powers may possess quantum brainwaves. People with psychic powers may appear as Innovades (artificial humans capable of communication via quantum brainwaves) or Innovators (natural humans capable of communication via quantum brainwaves).
Ability Limitations: Great. Most abilities are restricted to mecha.
Form Restrictions: Human, ELS.
Social Restrictions: There are a variety of cultures, each with their own norms and beliefs.
Notes: Warning: Sparkles. Warning: Naked sparkle space. Warning: Politics. Warning: IT'S A GUNDAM!

Jugdral
Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu

Ability Changes: Magic must correspond to the elements of fire, wind, electricity, light, or darkness. Weapons may be enchanted to imbue spells of these elements for the purpose of attacking from a distance. Utility and healing abilities will manifest as staves, which can perform a variety of magics.
Ability Limitations: Severe. There are no world-shattering powers and the strongest abilities must still scale to below those of the Holy Weapons native to Judgral. That is, no wind magic should be more powerful than Holsety, etc.
Form Restrictions: Human. Dragon characters may keep their forms as well.
Social Restrictions: Practitioners of dark magic will be instinctively hated and feared on sight, for very good reason. Dark magic tends to have corruptive effects on the soul. Additionally, there are several wars raging between the entire continent at this time, so strangers will be eyed with suspicion.
Notes: Warning: everyone can die, warning: everyone will die, warning: politics everywhere.

Ar Ciel
Ar Tonelico

Ability Changes: Magic and Science that ooks like magic flow both from Symphonic energy in this setting. High emphasis on magical technology. Nearly everything in this world is expressed-somehow as an application of the immense examples of Magitech known as the Towers. Magical monsters? Programs executed by the tower. Spells? Same thing.
Ability Limitations: Magic is for girls and non-humans only in Ar Ciel.
Form Restrictions: Mostly humans only, but there are a wide variety of Gods, near-humans and other creatures that are seen on the periphery of society. Digital life forms can take any form, from the most monsterous to the almost perfectly human.
Social Restrictions: The three habitable regions of the world each have their own tone. One has magic users at the bottom of the social ladder, nearly enslaved by normal humans who control the supply of critical medicine and resources. Another region is very nearly the opposite. The third and smallest region has rough equality, but is full of religious nutjobs yammering on about the 'green land'. This is a gross oversimplification and glosses over many political and social differences withing these major regions.
Notes: WARNING: Monogamy, strong relationships, Defeat=friendship, Combat Robot Maids, Level 9=marriage, Girls asking you to 'Put it in.', Sea of toxic clouds, Class 5 Apocalypse; Gaia's Vengeance.
Additional Information: In previous centuries, the world of Ar Ciel was once like many others. The key difference in this case was the slow development of wave-technology, climaxing in the creation of Reyvateils and the Towers that support them. Unfortuantely, in the fifth millennium the planet's society used its magic to go to war, and utterly destroyed the planet's ability to support human life. Above a sea of clouds, civilization clings to the sides of the Towers, seven centuries after the great disaster. Life goes on in Ar Ciel, even after the end of the world.

Amestris (Unnamed World)
Fullmetal Alchemist

Ability Changes: All special powers are turned into either alchemy (a very scientific form of what basically amounts to magic), automail (primitive cybernetic limbs), chimera, or homonculi. Chimera are a fusion of two or more animals by alchemy to create a new one with elements of both. In this case it would probably be some animal and a human. Homunculi are completely artifical humans. They are "fueled" by a philosopher's stone, and thus have all kinds of freaky powers. The most common is high-speed regeneration.
Ability Limitations: Unaided, a highly skilled alchemist or homunculus could probably destroy a decent sized building. Alchemists also require a specially prepared array to do any kind of alchemy (Ed is one of the rare exceptions to this rule). The key strength of Alchemy, however, is transmutation. Alchemists are really good at changing the shapes of things or changing things into other things, but they can't actually create matter, normally. With a philosopher's stone, there is essentially no limit to what you can do. Chimera are generally less powerful, their powers limited to things like improved speed or strength, ability to climb walls, extendo-limbs, and so on. Bringing someone back from the dead is absolutely impossible.
Form Restrictions: Everyone is either human, chimera or homunculi. Noteable racial subtypes for human are Amestrian (vaguely german), Ishivalan (Dark skin, red eyes, vaguely hindu), and Xingese (vaguely chinese). Homunculi generally appear fairly human (though homunculi also seem to all have a "true form" which is, in every canon example, horrifying. Homunculi also always have a tattoo somewhere on their body of a styalized snake eating it's own tail.) Chimera generally look human enough, but with a few small features of the animal they're mixed with; a tail, a skin pattern, psychological traits, stuff like that.
Social Restrictions: There are huge amounts of racial tension, espeically between Ishival and Amestris. Also, the general population looks upon alchemists who work for the military with fear and disgust, as alchemy is traditionally supposed to be used as a way to help people, not kill people.
Notes: [Scribbled in by Ed] You shouldn't judge people by their height.

Weyard
Golden Sun

Ability Changes: All character abilities become Psynergy, magic that cannot be seen directly by those who are powerless. Psynergy falls into the category of the four elements: Venus (Earth), Mars (Fire), Mercury (Water), and Jupiter (Wind). Light and Dark Psynergy exist as well, but have not been revealed yet in this time period, and thus should not be used.
Ability Limitations: Moderate. World-shattering powers must be toned to a reasonable level, but Psynergy is extremely powerful and should be used carefully.
Form Restrictions: Human, Proxian, Lemurian, Garoh werewolves, or Beastmen. The last is only just beginning to make their presence known, and are either humans with minimal bestial features or animals that stand upright and talk.
Social Restrictions: Adepts and Psynergy, once feared due to their mysterious nature, are now beginning to make their way into the public eye. Adepts tend to receive preferential treatment as great warriors, but the general populace is still afraid of these mystical powers. It is therefore advisable not to abuse Psynergy wantonly in public as individual response will vary. Beastmen, Proxians, and werewolves are not usually accepted by humans. Lemurians are believed to be mythical.
Notes: Warning: The ancients were puzzle fiends, warning: Call Dullahan at your own risk, warning: beware of purple-eyed teenagers, warning: be wary of the foggy part of the Eastern Sea, don't sail too close to Gaia Falls, and remember to lock the ship when leaving it.

BlazBlue

Ability Changes: Most powers are derived from Ars Magus, a type of weapon that uses seithr (A substance spread all over the world) as energy. These vary greatly, going from life-sucking blades to guns.
Ability Limitations: You won’t have anyone with world-shattering abilities running around (Even the Black Beast had to spend a lot of time to kill half of humanity), but limitations are fairly lenient.
Form Restrictions: Humans. Beastmen (Many different kinds). Dhampir (Vampires) and Kaka (Cat-people). Physical variations for humans, such as those displayed by Iron Tager, have been shown to exist.
Social Restrictions: -Due to high concentrations of seithr, it is advised to not go out of any of the 23 Hierarchical Cities. However, it’s this overabundance of seithr that has made people favor Ars Magus over scientific development (Since Ars Magus are easy to use, and science is hard ), which has now become almost extinct.
-The Novus Orbis Librarium is, to put it simply, the police-force of BlazBlue’s world. They keep and regulate all information. Most of the people are not fond of the Novus Orbis Librarium (NOL, for short), due to the fact that they are quite protective of the Grimoires (Books that enable people to use Ars Magus). This has earned them the much-despised nickname of ‘Library’. Occassionally, the NOL will issue bounties on certain people. It is not uncommon for freelance bounty hunters (Or ‘vigilantes’) to take them up on these offers.
-Discrimination does exist. Mainly against beastmen.
-The year is 2199. Enjoy that.
Notes: Warning: The wheel of fate is turning. Warning: Watch for ice cars. Warning: Hands off the panda.
Additional Information: In the past, the Black Beast killed a good part of humanity during the Dark War. Fortunately, it was stopped by the Six Heroes, but as a result of the beast’s death, its remains (seithr) were spread all over the world. This resulted in humans having to settle in high elevations, as anything lower than that would cause seithr addiction, along with the body deterioration it eventually causes. The cities created in these locations were known as ‘Hierarchical Cities’. On top of the Hierarchical Cities, one can find the higher classes, as well as the Librarium. These are the headquarters for… Actually, here, have a link. http://blazblue.wikia.com/wiki/13th_Hierarchical_City_of_Kagutsuchi

Ability Limitations: Nonexistent.
Form Restrictions: Human, Saiyan, Namekian, android, anthropomorphic animal, other alien, Majin. Humans and Saiyans can also cross-breed, so personnel may emerge as beings with a mixture of human and Saiyan blood.

Tellius
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn

Ability Changes: Beorc can fight with weapons or with magic. Weapons include swords, axes, lances, bows, and knives; magic includes wind, thunder, fire, light, darkness, and staves. Laguz, meanwhile, transform into animals to fight, and members of the heron clan do not fight; instead, they use seid magic, which relies on songs known as galdrar.
Ability Limitations: Great. While superhuman feats are possible, they normally require a blessing of one of the two goddesses to perform.
Form Restrictions: Beorc, laguz, or Branded. Laguz can be further broken down into three tribes, each with three or four clans: Beast tribe (cats, tigers, lions, and wolves), bird tribe (hawks, ravens, and herons), and dragon tribe (red, white, and black dragons).
Social Restrictions: Laguz are generally unwelcome in beorc countries (Daein far moreso than Crimea or Begnion), and the reverse is also true (moreso in Phoenicis and Kilvas than in Gallia). Goldoa lives in isolation, and special permission must be obtained in order to cross its borders. Also, Branded are persecuted by beorc and shunned altogether by laguz. Beorc also use "sub-human" as a racial slur against laguz, and laguz use "human" as a racial slur against beorc.
Notes: Warning: Fantastic racism. Warning: Dark is not evil. Warning: World of badass. Warning: Flying Chuck Norris. Warning: Goldoa will not move. Warning: The 3-13 Archer is your greatest ally. Warning: Marth and Roy are not in these games.

Ability Changes: What few abilities that exist take the form of low level psychic powers, like extreme acts of observation or spirit channeling. The latter, of course, indicates the presence of a definite afterlife.
Ability Limitations: Highly limited. Aside from psychic abilities which are comparatively weak by other worlds' standards, most humans have no powers at all.
Form Restrictions: Human only.
Social Restrictions: The American court system evolved into a very different entity than it did in other worlds. Closer in style to the Japanese court system, there are no juries currently, and all suspects are guilty until proven innocent. All cases have a maximum allowed length of three days, at which point if no better evidence has been provided, the suspect is found guilty of all charges. There is a strong indication that murder will most frequently bring the death penalty on those who commit it.
Notes: Warning: Weapons can and will be used against you in the court of law. Warning: Wriggling pieces of plywood. Warning: Easily excitable lawyers. War-
Additional Information: There are two primary time periods in this world, that being the setting of Games 1-3 and the setting of Game 4. For the purposes of characterization, Phoenix's gate specifically comes from the Game 1-3 point in the timeline, but gates from the later period are a possibility.

Ability Limitations: High. This world is of the mundane-fantastic variety. Abilities will become lower-key for the most part, as most bigger magic has been bred out of the population with time.

Earth/Digital World
Digimon Savers

Ability Changes: All powers are removed from people and are made manifest as a living creature called a digimon, which can shift into larger and more powerful forms via a process called Evolution.
Ability Limitations: Ridiculously powerful.
Form Restrictions: Human only. Powers become a form of a digimon representive of them.
Social Restrictions: Humans are hated in the Digital World, and most people do not have a digimon partner in the human world, so those with abilities would have to worry about DATS agents coming into contact with you and causing an incident if they aren't careful.
Notes:
Additional Information:
The human world is your average, normal, current time Earth. Nothing special. However, occasionally, a rift appears. These rifts connect to the Digital World.

The Digital World is a much more strange place. It's undeveloped, yet shows signs of high technology in the most random of places, like a fancy hotel hanging upside-down below an oceanside cliff. There are treacherous mountain ranges, covered in an infinite blizzard, deep jungles with so much foliage that they swallow up the sun, bubbling swamps with gas so thick that it can be toxic, beautiful sandy beaches, dense forests, wide plains, deep canyons, active volcanoes, and even a rumored city in the sky. Those who are unprepared may fall victim to the environment alone, and those who do not, probably will become the prey of the numerous Digimon species that roam around. Most Digimon are wild, but there are some that follow the will of stronger Digimon who rule over some of the regions. These powerful Digimon are rarely seen, but make their presence known when the need arises. There is also one sacred area that contains the God of the Digital World, Yggdrasil. Few are said to have ever seen this place, and even fewer actually know how to get there. Inside of the Digital World, time passes differently. A couple of days in the Human World may be two months in the Digital World. Landscapes may change drastically, mountains forming in moments, and whole islands splitting apart. In actuality, the Digital World is more like a large computer network, and somewhat of a trash bin. This explains the highly fluctuating landscape, as well as the oddities like abandoned amusement parks, restaurants in the middle of forests, upside down hotels on the underside of a cliff, etc. For some more info, and some locations, check out this link.

Ability Changes: Technology in the 2030s are not really shown beyond a laser rifle – so that is up in the air. Most abilities will come into magical powers, either innately born or from long practice and usually require chanting or other forms of concentration. Those who are pious will find that their faith gives them divine power against evil.
Ability Limitations: Moderate. While people can possess spectacular powers, only a small handful have massively-destructive magic.
Form Restrictions: Human, and “Man-Beast” (humans that can change into a single half-human half-man form), only those who are vampires already will become vampires. While there are vampires and dhampires, the former are generally attacked on sight and the latter are so rare that they are not valid.
Social Restrictions: Most of humanity do not realize the supernatural exist, and those in the know like to keep it that way to prevent panic. Vampires are almost universally evil and are hunted by various church organizations.
Notes: Warning: A Night is terrible time to have a curse, Warning: They do not drink… wine, Warning: Flea Men. Warning: Medusa heads. Warning: God Damn Bats. Warning: Death approaches.

Earth
Gegege no Kitaro

Ability Changes: There are no ability changes required, but those who possess them are considered youkai.
Ability Limitations: Low. There are no indications of world-shattering abilities, but the abilities and skills of youkai are wide and varied.
Form Restrictions: None. Youkai from other worlds may find themselves changing into their more traditional, less attractive forms, however.
Social Restrictions: The youkai and human worlds are largely kept separate, with humans rarely believing in such entities and youkai generally keeping to themselves. When they overlap, it tends to be either the result of human negligence of knowledge of traditional folklore or youkai capriciousness.
Notes: Warning: All legends are true. Warning: All legends are creepy. Warning: Earworm.
Additional Information: There is little English language information on the setting of Gegege no Kitaro. However, due to its connection to Japanese folklore, stories can easily be improvised. Suggestions for source material include the Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai blog (http://hyakumonogatari.com/) and The Obakemono Project, (http://www.obakemono.com/) as well as the list of Japanese legendary creatures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_from_Japan) on Wikipedia. Note that there are a few exceptions; Nurarihyon is not only evil, but is one of Kitaro's main archnemeses, and kitsune are GENERALLY SPEAKING bad news. Also, all Western monsters are for the sake of the setting considered "Western youkai."

Setting Information:

Earth
Live A Live

Ability Changes: Live A Live takes place in different eras, so depending on which ones are being entered, it'll vary. The eras that where characters can blend in easily with their abilities as is are the Prehistoric Era, Feudal Japan, Near Future Japan, and the Middle Ages. Abilities in both Ancient China and Present Day Japan are limited to extraordinary feats of physical strength, but nothing that extends to magic. The Distant Future nullifies exceptional abilities, but makes up for it with all of its technological advancements. In the Old West, the quality of a person's gun and his proficiency determines his strength.
Ability Limitations: Power levels tend to vary, but most time periods except for the Distant Future and Old West allow superhuman characteristics.
Form Restrictions: The Prehistoric Era and Feudal Japan allow for all races even beyond human, but forms are restricted to humans in all the other eras.
Social Restrictions: Prehistoric Era: Humans are still primitive, so it's best not to bring into this era advanced technology like guns or computers.

Ancient China: Practitioners of martial arts and those who master them usually are treated with the highest amount of respect in towns, but showing off may incite unwanted fights. Women aren't exactly held in the highest esteem in most places.

Middle Ages: Knights are viewed as heroes by the people and the established government is a monarchy. There's little to worry here about here and most people are friendly, but they can collectively turn against you if they see something is wrong. Demons all under the services of the Demon King are starting to roam the lands again.

Feudal Japan: Numerous states are fighting for total control of the country, so bloodshed and assassination attempts are very common. Sorcerers and demons are used during the fights from time to time.

Old West: Order is relatively non-existent in most towns. Strength and numbers often times determine who calls the shots. Gangs often form to overpower the law and they won't respond to anything else other than greater force.

Present Day: Fighting is seen as a form of entertainment, but to some, a little beyond that. Martial arts tournaments are held internationally where fighters compete to determine who is the strongest. Fighting, at the very least, doesn't determine who controls the land like in the other eras.

Near-Distant Future: A biker gang called the Crusaders roam the streets, generally causing chaos and mischief. The Japanese government, now essentially a police state, does little to stop them mostly because of their corruption. The people are friendly, but it's a time where characters ought to prepare before entering.

Distant Future: Technology has advanced to the point where artificial AI and robots are possible to create. Most operations are left to machines while some are distrustful of them.
Notes: As you can see, fighting means a lot in most of these eras. Any non-fighters probably wouldn't do so well in missions aside from in the Distant Future.
Additional Information: In every era, a new Demon King is born based on the conditions of the times. They're often named or called a different variation of “Odio” like “O-D-O”, “Odi Wang Lee”, “Ode Iou”, and such. Hatred is the main source of conflict in the eras and there's always someone or something to represent it.

The World
CottonTale

Ability Changes: Most of the people living in the world of CottonTale are essentially like average human beings only with animal qualities because... well, they are animals. Birds can fly, fish breathe underwater, and such. The major difference in this world is that there are wizards, but to use magic, wizards must make contracts with others. They use people's desires and transform it into magic.
Ability Limitations: Without a contract, wizards' magical powers drop down to barely a tenth of what it used to be.
Form Restrictions: Mainly animals or insects inhabit the world. The only things that don't exist in this world are humans.
Social Restrictions: Most people in “The World” are just like average humans. Other than the fact that they're friggin' animals, interacting wouldn't be much of a problem. But expect them to gawk stupidly at advanced technologies from time to time.

It is, however, a medieval society at the time. Being a children's programming, it isn't as graphic as it can be in real life, but don't expect women to have too many rights in plenty of places.
Notes: Wizards often keep to themselves. They'd talk behind your back if you aren't paying attention.

Don't trust boars with your businesses. It's not worth it.

The Netherworld
Disgaea

Ability Changes: ...It's the Netherworld. Any and all powers are kept here, although you will now be able to read titles, among other things. And yes, levels exist here.
Ability Limitations: One word and a number: Level 9999. No, seriously. This world can get that powerful.
Form Restrictions: For the most part, they can keep their normal appearances, but some can, under some extraordinary circumstances, slowly change into demons (as in Almaz's case, though it was because Mao stole his title).
Social Restrictions: This world is filled to the brim with demons who want to be the most evil one possible. Their idea of evil does leave something to be desired, though. Also, it seems to run off of video game mechanisms...
Notes: Warning: Evil laughter will damage your eardrums; Warning: The cuter the demon, the better it can kick your ass; Warning: OVERKILL; Warning: The higher the level, the bigger the explosions; Warning: Seems to run off of video game mechanisms; Warning: Please do not call the tiny demons "tiny", they will hurt you; Warning: Fourth wall, what fourth wall; Warning: Tsundere noble demons are surprisingly common

Earth, Legacy of the Ravager

[identity profile] borntobetrolled.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Earth
Legacy of the Ravager

Ability Changes: None
Ability Limitations: None (Yes, even world destroying powers)
Form Restrictions: None, though humans are the only sentient species that can appear publicly without persecution.
Social Restrictions: Generally normal modern Earth restrictions. Use of anything out of the ordinary will draw a lot of attention.
Notes: Warning: Shadow War, Warning: Perverted Oni
Additional Information:
The world seems to be a normal Earth at first glance, but hiding out of view of the normal humans are races of all sorts of magical descent (and magical power in general). Most things of legend are, in fact, true.

An important facet of history not reflected in a normal earth's history is the war that predates the current one between the Harbingers and the Knights of the Holy Dawn. However, little is known about the details or even where it took place. There's even speculation that it didn't occur on Earth, since there is no evidence of it happening.

What is known is that it was started by The Ravager, though the length of said war is another point of speculation. The Ravager herself was said to be unstoppable, but researchers found a spell that was able to... kill her? The details of the finale are shrouded in history. The spell itself, like just about everything else, has been lost during the passage of time.

In the present time, the Harbingers and the Knights of the Holy Dawn are powerful organizations that each have control over certain businesses and organizations worldwide. They have their eyes and ears everywhere, making it difficult for either side to make a move without the other knowing.

Actual information on the world's ancient history concerning the war can be found here. (http://borntobetrolled.livejournal.com/1059.html) However, it's entirely restricted from natives of the world and is difficult for others to get access to it.

World Name Earth
Canon Name Dance in the Vampire Bun

Ability Changes: Physical and shape shifting powers work as they normally would, though those who possess such power will be labeled a vampire or werewolf by locals. Otherwise magic, super technology, and other such things do not exist.
Ability Limitations: Medium, anything beyond what the vampires of this world are capable of is not allowed.
Form Restrictions: Human, vampire, wereanimals only.
Social Restrictions: Laws are what is normal in any civilized country. Vampires are feared and/or hated by most humans.
Notes: Vampire-ism in this world is spread like a virus. Anyone bit by a vampire will become one themselves within 72 hours if not treated. Vaccines are readily available though.
