Application

Application Rules:
-Certain characters canonically have great influence over dimensional travel (such as Yuuko from xxxHolic or one of the Data Integration Thought Entity humanoid interfaces from Haruhi Suzumiya, i.e. Yuki and Ryoko) will have a greater influence in the setting than normal, or are just extremely high-powered and can potentially affect the game in major ways. Playing one often requires some special plot integration, and require a player to have established themselves by playing another character before they will be accepted.

-AU settings are generally allowed on a case-to-case basis, but no more than one of the same character can be a permanent member of Planeocracy. If the AU is significantly different and established (such as the Genderbend of Haruhi Suzumiya) then it is generally allowed, as the characters are different enough from the main source to be distinct. Apping an AU character uses the standard application procedure, but if the AU doesn't meet our requirements, we may deny them on that basis. Here are the qualifications for if your AU is acceptable:

1. Significantly different from the source material. Minor tweaks to history and/or personality don't make an AU different enough to really be worth accepting for us. For an AU to be accepted it needs to have something major different to differentiate it from the canon.
2. Internally consistent. In most cases you'll be coming up with the AU yourself, so you need to make sure it all makes sense within the setting. So, if something changes, the whole setting obviously has to change as a result, and we need to know how.
3. This isn't absolutely necessary, but if at all possible the character will look at least somewhat different from their canon counterpart. This is primarily to help differentiate if we have both.

If you are thinking of apping an AU of a character, please get a hold of all potential castmates as well as any person playing the same character (if this is applicable). This is required for your application to be accepted.

-Original characters are permitted, they use the same application form but require far more detail as far as background and setting. If they are a part of an existing canon, they cannot have any ties to actual canonical characters or visible connection to events (attributing events in-canon to the character that are otherwise unattributed may be permissible but is generally discouraged). As with canon characters, you are limited to two OCs, even if the OCs are from different universes. Planeocracy canon originals can use any of the settings posted in the setting information post that specifically say they are open, and must conform to the general concepts of the world. It is HIGHLY advised to speak to the mod team before making the character, these characters can be rejected automatically if they do not follow the general concepts of the established world.

-You may only have one application in queue at a time. If you would like to submit a second app, you must wait until your first has been processed.

Application Template:
Looked over the community? Brushed up on all 31,561,021 Confuto Ordinatio rules and regulations? Filled out all your forms in triplicate? Looks like you're ready to get that Gate Key! Just fill out the following form and submit it to the Executive Subcommittee of Other-Planar Affairs! That Gate Key should be yours in 5-7 business days!

The following is an alternate form that can be used in place of a musebox sample post. It takes the form of an application and interview as if the character were applying for a job. Respond to the questions in-character, if you or your character doesn't know what they're asking for indicate it in some way. The character can lie if doing so is in character, but indicate they are doing it by writing "[LIE]" before the answer to the question.

Player Name: Crowley
Character Name: The Prophet of Truth
Canon: Halo

Background: Lookie here! (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Prophet_Of_Truth)

Setting Information:

World Name Another nameless world with an Earth in it.
Canon Name Halo

Ability Changes: Complete removal of powers.
Ability Limitations: Although some of the aliens have superhuman abilities, supernatural abilities are nonexistent.
Form Restrictions: Human or possibly one of the races of the Covenant (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Covenant_Empire#Species), depending on the mission.
Social Restrictions: Bloody, brutal war between humans and the Covenant. The Covenant has a rigid racial caste system and often extreme animosity between races.
Notes: Warnings: zombie virus, hyper-aggressive aliens, unguarded doomsday weapons.
Additional Information: This (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/The_Universe) sums it up quite nicely. Because I just love to monologue, I'm making my own condensed version, too.

It's the 26th century, and Humanity has been colonizing the planets outside of the solar system for 200 years. Faster than light travel is possible through the invention of the (occasionally erratic) Slipspace engine. Artificial intelligences are a mundane feature of society, with emotionless "dumb" A.I.'s carrying many small duties such as farm labor and the rarer "smart" A.I's (which combine human personalities with superhuman computing).
Unfortunately, the UNSC (the galactic human government) find themselves at war with the other major faction, the Covenant Empire, which is a conglomeration of several alien races and a vicious theocracy that declares humanity's very existence to be heresy that must be eliminated.
The Covenant religion revolves around the worship of the Forerunners, an advanced species of aliens which once populated the galaxy over a hundred thousand years ago. The Forerunners were wiped out in their own war against an extragalactic parasite called the Flood, which absorbs the intelligence of its victims to add to a massive shared consciousness called the Gravemind. The Forerunners were forced activated their ultimate weapon, the Halo array (TITLE DROP), which gave them a "win" only by destroying all sapient life in the galaxy. This ended the Flood, until the Covenant released some miniscule samples of Flood organisms in their exploration of abandoned Forerunner structures. Ooops.

Part 2 out of 3

[identity profile] animatedsmoke.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Portal Location: An awkward nook on the Forerunner Dreadnought in High Charity.

Personality: Truth is a two-faced, manipulative bastard. There are a lot of details, but that's the one thing you would do best to remember.

Any information that is gained from Truth's outward personality would be extremely superficial, as, in true politician fashion, Truth is constantly acting in whatever way that would benefit him most. This ranges from the rabid fanaticism of war propaganda broadcasted on the battlefields of the Human-Covenant War to the polite, friendly tone of coaxing a hesitant sponsor. In his private appearances, which give a little actual insight about his personality, Truth is a cold stoic, logical and analytical. In his view, there is only one way to get anything done: meticulous planning and careful manipulation of the right people and right events.

Truth values order, stability, and the good of the Covenant above all else, and holds a strong "end justifies the means" philosophy when it comes to maintaining any of these. This far from an admirable quality, as Truth simultaneously keeps a very twisted definition of "the greater good." This is because of his faith in the delusional tenants of his unknowingly suicidal religion and the fact that Truth will often place himself as the Covenant's greatest asset. Another element that disqualifies any noble intent is the fact that Truth's ruthlessness goes far past any possible claimed pragmatism and straight into psychopathy. The public torture of a scapegoat (which Truth himself had set up) attempted genocide of species whose existences politically inconvenience him are just two acts which illustrate that there is nothing that Truth will question doing if it will advance his plans.

This scheming mindset distracts from the fact that Truth is actually a very emotional person, prone to becoming frustrated at the people he has to work with and having his temper erupt. It's just that Truth recognizes the unproductiveness of such emotions and keeps them carefully concealed in all but the most unorthodox of situations. These situations include, of course, panic at certain defeat but also certain victory, as evidenced by his dropping of all restraint after the successful (planned) elimination of his two equals in power left him with supreme power over the Covenant.

Reason for Joining: Because there's no way he's going to have his plans derailed by something as random and anticlimactic as the universe going poof.

Position Desired: Councilor, as politics is what Truth has been doing for his entire life. Considering that Truth is the most respected out of the three supreme rulers of the Covenant, he's very good at it. There's also the fact that a person who doesn't even walk on a daily basis would have some difficulty doing field work.

Point in Canon: Near the beginning of Halo 2, after proclaiming Thel 'Vadamee to be the Arbiter.

Notes: Truth spends most of his time in a hover chair (installed with weapons and defensive "energy shields" in case of assassination attempts), which he'll presumably bring to Confuto Ordinatio if allowed. He also has no name other than his title, which could make for some awkward paperwork.

Player Name: Kitty
Character Name: Naminé
Canon: Kingdom Hearts

Background: Here. (http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Namin%C3%A9)

Setting Information: Already represented.

Portal Location: The Altar of Naught in The World That Never Was.

Personality:

Naminé was, in effect, raised by people without hearts; she was born at fourteen years of age but lacking the memories of her Other. Without any memories or knowledge but what little basic instinct and information she’d been created with, she was practically a blank slate. Almost immediately, she was captured by the Organization XIII. Once they discovered what she could do, they devised a plan to secure the cooperation of the Keyblade Master in order to further their ultimate goal; the collection of hearts to feed to Kingdom Hearts in order to retrieve their own hearts. If they wanted to use her, they needed her docile, needed her meek so that she would follow their every command, for with powers like hers, a will of her own was not something they could allow her to have. They succeeded, to an extent.

Naminé developed to be quiet and introverted. She barely spoke to her captors, taking their taunts and jabs for the most part wordlessly. That was the only social interaction she had, and because of that, she developed a rather severe inferiority complex. She was raised to believe that she was worthless, that she was nothing, that she didn’t even have a right to exist, and, with no evidence to the contrary, she came to believe it. So when they came to her and told to her that if she used her powers to trick the Keyblade Master into doing what they wanted, she could finally have a friend, she did it, but only half-willingly – she knew it was wrong, but she did it because not only was she desperately lonely, she also knew that the Organization would not keep her around if they decided she was useless. The longer she worked, the longer she thought about it, the more she realized that what she was doing was terrible. If one analyzes the contents of the fake worlds she helped create in Castle Oblivion, one begins to see that she was trying to warn Sora to turn back, that his memories, the ones she’d created, were lying to him; it started with the fake Aerith, and culminated in Naminé’s non-physical appearance in the fake Destiny Islands, during which she told Sora that their relationship was a lie.

[2/?]

[identity profile] lethecamellia.livejournal.com 2010-07-06 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Despite being raised by a group of people that mistreated her, Naminé has a good ‘heart’. (It’s been said that since she is a special variety of Nobody and was created in a very unusual way, she actually does possess a heart.) She does not like to hurt others, and does everything she can to right her perceived wrongs. It was this that lead her to run away when given the opportunity, immediately going to help Sora and willingly putting herself in between him and Larxene, one of the people that tormented her. Naminé only seems to be able to be strong for other people; first for Sora, and then to help Riku overcome his own problems in Castle Oblivion, and then for Roxas, when she directly disobeyed DiZ (who later ordered Riku to execute her) to attempt to explain things to him when he was unwittingly trapped in the digital Twilight Town. After that, she appeared again to rescue Kairi from the Organization, and was even willing to attempt to help Kairi fight against Saix before Riku arrived to save them. In fact, the only time she seems to be confident at all is when she’s talking about something she knows well or is explaining something to someone else. Social interaction is difficult for her; she tends to be very blunt, but is always quick to apologize for her faux pas (which suggests that she actually does pay attention to what she’s saying), such as when she tells Roxas he was never meant to exist, but apologizes for it afterwards. Naminé does not like lying, but is sometimes so afraid of the other person’s reaction that she won’t volunteer facts to the point of almost being dishonest – for instance, in her conversation with Roxas, she says that ‘some things happened’ but does not elaborate on either what happened or her involvement in it, just saying that she ‘had to take apart the memories chained together in Sora’s heart.’

Given her lack of life experience, Naminé can come across as a little naieve, but that’s not actually the case. Socially, perhaps, she isn’t very knowledgeable – all she’s ever known is the darker side of relationships, and the ins and outs of proper friendships are a bit hard for her to grasp. Most of her knowledge comes from either the Organization or what she’s seen in the memories of other people, which really doesn’t add up to quite the same amount of experience someone who was actually alive for fifteen years would have. However, she also seems to be one of the characters in the game that understands that the world has shades of grey, not just black and white. She tells Roxas that she doesn’t know whether the Organization is bad or good, implying that she understands the motivations behind their actions and that there are bad people and good people in it. This also implies that she’s not the type to hate or hold a grudge, and will willingly admit that even the group that tormented her from the beginning of her existence is not all bad. On herself, however, she is much harsher, and seems to suffer from a sizeable amount of guilt over the mistakes she’s made. Naminé tends to be fairly selfless, as evidenced when she gave Sora a choice between his real memories and the fake ones, and accepted his decision. She then spent the next year, during which she could easily have escaped and finally lived her own life, repairing his memories, even though that meant that he, the first normal person that had really (willingly) been kind to her, would not remember her.

Player Name: Mags
Character Name: Vivio Takamachi
Canon: Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

Background: http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/Vivio_Takamachi

Setting Information: http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/Mid-Childa
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Girl_Lyrical_Nanoha_%28series%29
http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/ViVid
– While Nanoha mun already gave some information about Nanoha-era, these links should give more information about Vivio's timeline and place in it.

Portal Location: Vivio's closet

Personality: Vivio is a normal young girl with a strong sense of justice and studious nature. Between the way that her mothers raised her and the early trauma of the Jail Scagletti incident, Vivio refuses to let any injustice she sees go unpunished. Or well, she would, if she had ever really have had a chance for that to happen just yet, but so far she hasn't actually had a major fight that she had to do. At least, when she wasn't being controlled against her will to fight against Nanoha.

Yeah, if she finds out about someone using mind control to force others to do things, well, she's probably going to go into a righteous fury. And beat the crap out of said person. And then blow them up with magic, and beat them up some more.

Vivio is also intensely devoted to her friends, which does includes people she just became friends with recently. If any of her friends are sad, she'll try as hard as possible to find out the problem and fix it, no matter what it is. Also, she likes physical contact, and will hug her friends a lot. And if said friend is chronically sad for whatever reason, she'd just have Vivio hovering around her trying to make her happy for as long as it takes for it to happen (which has been shown quite well in the case of Einhart Stratos).

She also takes both her studies and her martial arts and magic training very seriously. As far as her studies are concerned, she studies as hard as she can and she enjoys learning and researching new things. As for her martial arts training and magic training, she works just as hard there as she does with her studies, practicing strike arts under Nove Nakajima and magic under her mother Nanoha.

But there is one thing that Vivio hates, and that's being treated like a little kid and not being trusted to be responsible. Especially during the years it took for Nanoha to give Vivio her own device, she wasn't happy about having to use her mother's device because 'she didn't need her own'. And even now, if something important would come up and she was told that she couldn't help out because she was a child, she would be rather annoyed. And probably sneak out to go help anyway.

Reason for Joining: Vivio decided to join because her mothers made pretty much taught her to be awesome and do the right thing and stuff and the multiverse exploding is bad and needs to be stopped. So pretty much the same reason why she's going to join the Time Space Administration Bureau after she's old enough, basically (by Nanoha's consent, not actual law,).

Position Desired: Agent

Point in Canon: From right before the training trip in Vivid.

Notes: For Vivio's world description, since it's a lot farther along than Nanoha's, the warning: Hot women may be lolitraps might be warranted.

Well, We'll need you to fill out the world info for Mid-Childa since it's a different setting, then we can accept.

Fate Testarossa Harlaown

[identity profile] jet-zanber.livejournal.com 2010-07-08 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Shaun
Character Name: Fate Testarossa Harlaown
Canon: Mahou Shojou Lyrical Nanoha ViViD

Background: http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/Fate_Testarossa

Setting Information: Already represented

World Name Mid-Childa
Canon Name Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha

Ability Changes: Any supernatural powers fall under the heading of two classifications of magic, Mid or Belkan. There are other powers but are usually represented in the local form of martial arts called Strike Arts. Any familiars such as Digimon, Pokemon, etc become Summons and are swapped into Mid-type summonings.
Ability Limitations: Typical mages are B to A rank. Those with exceptional strength will be AA or more depending on what kind of limiter they may be under.
Form Restrictions: Human, few non-human ie catgirl.
Social Restrictions: Mid-childa has its own language with a Japanese-Euro influence mixing between classic Japanese to German influences.
Notes: Warning: Laser Lesbians. Warning: Eternal Bottom Fate.
Additional Information: (This can be a link, or it can be a larger description of the setting at large. For original settings, this section will need to be expansive and descriptive.)

Portal Location: Fate and Nanoha's room closet door.

Personality: Fate is a young woman driven by emotion, friendship and love. Unloved as a child and abused throughly, she is always seeking to help everyone she can, from the big to the small. She brought Erio and Caro under her wing, as well as raising Vivio alongside Nanoha. However, she can't be a stern mother, only loving. The sterness she leaves up to Nanoha. Also, she's not a big fan of punishment, and often plays the part of Good Cop when things get bad. Her kindness and gentleness makes everyone like her, and her usual default mode is soft and timid, her voice rarely reaching angry levels. When she does get mad however, it's a cold fury, and she will fight until you are subdued and ready for arrest. Clear thinking and level headed, Fate can be serious when the time comes, and a leader. But she much rather prefers to allow others to take the spotlight and with gentle encouragement for them.

Fate has a very huge Rescue Me Personality, a type of person who simply has to reach out to other people and do her duty as a mother to the character involved. Easily startled, she is also a little jumpy when weird stuff happens that involves her family. She considers herself a good mother though, raising Vivio, Erio and Caro all separately throughout the years. Her strength is her big heart, a way of filling the void of memories after she was created by Project Fate and was shunned love from her mother. Never a fan of physical violence, she is very much adept at it, a fast warrior on the field filling a mage archetype of Magic Swordsman, capable of making fast surgical strikes. She is nearly inhuman in speed in combat as well, her speed nearly unmatched especially in True Sonic Form. Her motive to join CO is by a sense of duty and as well as a good sense of right and wrong. She is used to big organizations and is a good match for anyone she is partnered with, and can work professionally with several people.

Reason for Joining: Fate works for the TSAB as an Enforcer. This is just another call to duty for her.

Position Desired: Agent

Point in Canon: Vivid, just before the training trip.

Notes: Fate can be easily flustered. Please capitalize on it.

As it stands this needs a fair bit more work, specifically in the personality section (although I am also confused as to why she is being made an Agent when she is easily Enforcer material). While you got a lot of information about her "motherly" instincts, there really isn't much else here about her personality. Remember, a personality should be about 4 solid paragraphs to be accepted.

Senhime 1/2

[identity profile] rance-attaack.livejournal.com 2010-07-09 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: 623
Character Name: Senhime
Canon: Sengoku Rance

Background: http://alicesoft.wikia.com/wiki/Tokugawa_Sen#Profile

Setting Information:

World Name Rance World
Canon Name Sengoku Rance

Ability Changes: Any kind of abilities would probably be changed to a type of magic like fire, ice, light, etc., and familiars like Pokemon could either be a summon or just be considered a monster. Ninja characters could have abilities on scrolls.
Ability Limitations: The most people have is magic and summoning ogres. Ninjas also can use jutsu with scrolls.
Form Restrictions: Humans, monsters, and youkai exist. 3G is a youkai with 3 heads, so if you're weird looking, you'd probably be considered a youkai.
Social Restrictions: On the continent, slavery is still accepted, however, the concept of it is not understood in JAPAN. Also, youkai are more accepted in JAPAN, although even then, they have their own state, so, if you're considered a youkai and you're on the continent, you might not be treated well.
Notes: http://alicesoft.wikia.com/wiki/Rance_World {Info and picture of the world.)

Portal Location: Oda training ground.

Personality: Senhime, the princess of Mikawa, could be compared to Rance (the hero of the Rance game series) and his sex addiction. Normally rather apathetic about things, Senhime is incredibly passionate about fighting and war. So much so that she actually wants to fight hopeless battles for the adrenaline rush. Her name actually means "battle" or "war" princess. And when she's not on the front lines of battle, she's training, rain or shine. Senhime actually prefers training in the rain. However, sometimes she questions this love of hers, because when she tells Rance that she likes to train in the rain, he calls her weird, and asks "Am I?", which signifies that she wonders if perhaps she does train too much.

There is something else that Senhime is passionate about, and that is the Tokugawa House. When the racoon dogs came and took over, enslaving all of the humans, she was thrown into a dungeon, after fighting for as long as possible, because the racoon dogs were so scared of her. Senhime seeks to rebuild the Tokugawa House to its former glory, as impossible as it may be.

Senhime is also one of the few women in the game who can tame Rance. While he does rape her when he first encounters her, it's only because she is shackled. Once she has joined the party, Rance eventually tries to sneak into her room late at night and have sex with her, but due to her incredibly fast reflexes, she catches his hand and drags him off to do some laborious training that she was planning on doing anyway. Also, if you clear her character, she says she thinks she's fallen in love with Rance, so, obviously, he suggests that they have sex. However, she says that she just loves him and doesn't need to have sex, and, for some reason, Rance goes along with it.

Reason for Joining: To fight.

Position Desired: Agent.

Point in Canon: After joining Rance's party.

Notes: Senhime's gonna want to spar a lot. Unless these visits provide enough challenge.

Player Name: Rift
Character Name: Byakuren Hijiri
Canon: Touhou Project

Background: http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Byakuren_Hijiri

Originally Byakuren was a Buddhist monk alongside her brother, Myouren. As such, she was fairly religious and strove to follow the Eightfold path. However, when her brother eventually passed away, she was gripped with an overpowered fear of death. While Buddhism teaches of the importance of a karmic cycle of rebirth, Byakuren rejected this belief and sought out power in order to ensure eternal youth and longevity for herself. She was able to secure this power through magic, an ability sustained by belief in supernatural beings such as youkai. As a result, her own youth and existence became dependent on the continued existence of youkai.

To ensure the continued survival of youkai, Byakuren chose to become a youkai hunter. While seemingly a paradoxical decision, she did this in order to secretly help youkai under the pretense of exterminating them. While the common belief is that youkai prey on humans, some could say the inverse was also true: by vilifying and hunting the youkai in order to protect themselves, the humans became the predators. While originally Byakuren was merely motivated for her own selfish needs, she eventually came to believe that humans were victimizing youkai and began to selflessly strive to protect them. While her views were perhaps somewhat warped, they were motivated by an honest desire to help both humans and youkai. Her ultimate goal was a world where both could peacefully co-exist.

However, this was not to be. Eventually the humans came to realize Byakuren’s deceit as they saw her magical powers made her more similar to a youkai than a human. Those who realized she did not age came to fear her, and ultimately chose to seal her away within Makai. There she slumbered for a thousand years, before a Moriya Shrine conspiracy coincidence lead to her followers being freed and in turn releasing her from her seal. Following a misunderstanding and confrontation with a youkai hunter (I’ll just go with Marisa B for now unless a reason to go with another path arises), she was reunited with her followers and eventually decided to convert the Palanquin ship into a shrine, the Temple of Myouren.

Setting Information: Gensokyo’s been pretty adequately addressed, hasn’t it?

Portal Location: Somewhere on the grounds near the Temple of Myouren.

Personality:

Byakuren is rather naive and idealistic, while simultaneously beig somewhat jaded. While she strives for a peaceful co-existence between two races which have been enemies since time immemorial, simultaneously she sees the dark sides of both races to an extent that disturbs her. She chooses to primarily side with youkai, if only because she seems them as the more oppressed and victimized of the two races, although that is obviously an arguable contention. She sympathizes with youkai mostly because she feels they are unfairly vilified: they are cast as monsters simply because humans find it convenient to label them as such. She sees little distinction between youkai and gods, and has thus chosen to side with the former.

Nonetheless, Byakuren is perhaps one of the most pious of Gensokyo’s residents. As she is a devout Shingon Buddhist, her religious traditions are very different from those of the predominantly Shinto residents of Gensokyo. Unlike everyone’s favorite shrine maidens, Byakuren does not worship gods, but instead seeks enlightenment through the path of dharma and her own spiritual potential. While she has strayed from this path in the past by relying on dark magic to sustain her own youth, she nonetheless remains committed to some extent to her religious beliefs. She carries the two principal mantras of Shingon with her at all times, the Taizokai (mantra of the Womb realm) and the Kongokai (mantra of the Diamond Realm). She is quick to accept others as her followers, striving to guide anyone who seeks spiritual fulfillment.

Despite her desire for peace and pacifistic ways, however, Byakuren will not hesitate to resort to violence. She will often intercede in any fight she believes to be unjust, usually siding with the weaker party. She’s very proficient at unarmed combat as a result of her training as a monk, and further enhances her already high physical capabilities with her magic. If she feels that her followers are those she cares about are being threatened, she is quick to come to their defense after reciting her signature prayer: Namusan

As an aside, as a result of her long imprisonment in Makai, she is rather out of touch with the times. Technology mystifies her (and to some extent frightens her). Many of her conceptions and beliefs are long outdated and will probably require some straightening out.

Reason for Joining: Byakuren would whole-heartedly believe in CO’s noble goal of protecting various worlds. She would also seek to try to spread her beliefs and foster peace wherever she goes.

Position Desired: Agent.

Point in Canon: Post-Double Spoiler.

Notes: Warning: Namusan!

And has started to embrace the dark side of her heritage, but misses the normal world, and wonders about what it means to be 'Evil'.
Setting Information:

Ability Changes: Abilities stay mostly the same, though they have a tendency to become more cliched, and or humorous. Also with power comes connections. Magical girls come in families. As do demons. Giant Robots come from schools. Heroes and Villains attract rivals and hanger ons.
Ability Limitations: Powerful beings are common, though powers tend to be small in range, destroying a city block or holding a town hostage, not ripping apart the world.
Form Restrictions: Little to none, though some ability to hide as an human is common, but Earth has contacts with many many places.
Social Restrictions: Fierce Rivalries! Alignment Restrictions! Someone will hate you for what you are, what ever you are. Modern Magical society is divided up by Alignment and cliche.

Portal Location: In Yuri's refrigerator, behind the virgin's blood and chocolate syrup.
Personality: Yuri is a complicated person. At first she looks like the simple happy go lucky Japanese girl just starting high-school, and that is what a big part of her wants to be: just a normal girl, but normal girls don't have fathers that conquered demiplanes and have to worry about the way eating small children raises their blood pressure. She wants to make her father proud, to be a great 'evil' and has seen for her self that the 'good' guys can be awful at times. However, that doesn't change that her homework involves committing murder.

And then there’s her mother's influence, a more subtle evil, and a dose of saccharin sweet combat magic. Yuri is a magical girl and can feel the temptation to fight for a simple thing like Justice.Against all this she wonders about how to enjoy life, meet new people, maybe have a boyfriend, or at least date a little, and wishes there weren't so many complications, so many vendettas and divisions and betrays, but has also seen why they happen, and how powerful they can make the clever.

She is interested in gaining allies across the multiverse as she has learned how useful that can be, and maybe change the world up a little. There’s a big place out there and shes just starting to realize how small her world really was. She is rather nervous about romance. Having found that it can be a complex thing in the world of villains. She has a bit of an reverse harem going, but doesn’t really like any of them that much.

Reason for Joining: She is joining for two contradictory reasons. First she does care about her friends and doesn't want her world to end up gone, second she thinks that maybe by gaining rank and then betraying the Organization she could get homework credit at school.

Position Desired: Agent.

Player Name: Eric
Character Name: Edward Elric
Canon: Full Metal Alchemist

Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fullmetal_Alchemist_characters

Setting Information:

Amestris (Unnamed World)
Full Metal Alchemist

Ability Changes: All special powers are turned into either alchemy (a very scientific form of what basically amounts to magic), automail (primitive cybernetic limbs), chimera, or homonculi. Chimera are a fusion of two or more animals by alchemy to create a new one with elements of both. In this case it would probably be some animal and a human. Homunculi are completely artifical humans. They are "fueled" by a philosopher's stone, and thus have all kinds of freaky powers. The most common is high-speed regeneration.
Ability Limitations: Unaided, a highly skilled alchemist or homunculus could probably destroy a decent sized building. Alchemists also require a specially prepared array to do any kind of alchemy (Ed is one of the rare exceptions to this rule). The key strength of Alchemy, however, is transmutation. Alchemists are really good at changing the shapes of things or changing things into other things, but they can't actually create matter, normally. With a philosopher's stone, there is essentially no limit to what you can do. Chimera are generally less powerful, their powers limited to things like improved speed or strength, ability to climb walls, extendo-limbs, and so on. Bringing someone back from the dead is absolutely impossible.
Form Restrictions: Everyone is either human, chimera or homunculi. Noteable racial subtypes for human are Amestris (vaguely german), Ishivalan (Dark skin, red eyes, vaguely hindu), and Xing (vaguely chinese). Homunculi generally appear fairly human (though homunculi also seem to all have a "true form" which is, in every canon example, horrifying. Homunculi also always have a tattoo somewhere on their body of a styalized snake eating it's own tail.) Chimera generally look human enough, but with a few small features of the animal they're mixed with; a tail, a skin pattern, psychological traits, stuff like that.
Social Restrictions: There are huge amounts of racial tension, espeically between Ishival and Amestris. Also, the general population looks upon alchemists who work for the military with fear and disgust, as alchemy is traditionally supposed to be used as a way to help people, not kill people.
Notes: [Scribbled in by Ed] You shouldn't judge people by their height.

Personality: Ed had very little of what you'd call a normal childhood, as his mother died when he was around seven and his father left home even earlier. Since then he has spent most his time learning alchemy, first to bring his mother back to life, then to undo the damage he did to himself and his brother trying to bring his mother back to life. Practically the only people close to his own age he regularly associates with are Al and Winry. Because of this, he tries to act very adult most of the time.

He's not an adult, though. He's 15, and sometimes it really shows. He's SUPER sensitive about how short he is, a picky eater (He hates milk.), and gets flustered if anyone implies that he's attracted to a girl. He tries to project an aura of confidence and professionalism most of the time, but he's known for his short temper and the whole facade breaks down pretty quickly when things start going wrong that REALLY hit close to home (i.e. when someone starts making him doubt his own motives or when someone close to him gets hurt.).

Ed is incredibly driven. His natural inclination is to take on all the work that needs to be done by himself. He'll pick up enormous workloads, then work until he can't think straight. In part because he's hesitant to trust someone else enough to split a workload, but also because he subconsciously expects Al to stop him before he ACTUALLY works himself to death.

And speaking of Al...

Ed's brother is also his best friend and basically is the most important thing in the world to him. There is so much brotherly love going on here you would not believe it. And trust. Al is basically the only person Ed would trust his life with. His single greatest fear is that Al hates and blames him for turning him into a suit of armor. He also has a mild crush on Winry, his mechanic and his childhood friend, although he's totally in denial about it, especially to himself.

Reason for Joining: Access to even more resources that might help with his search for a way to restore his and his brother's bodies to normal.

Position Desired: OBVIOUSLY as a state alchemist, Ed deserves the rank of Enforcer. If nothing else, it would give more opportunity for short jokes.

Point in Canon: Just before he met Shou Tucker

Player Name: Floogy
Character Name: Akemi Takenaka, codename “Tsurugi” (For listing purposes, please use Tsurugi)
Canon: Yakuza Theatre

Background:

Akemi Takenaka is the daughter of two fairly important executives of the Syndicate. Despite her parents' work, she lived a fairly normal life in Japan. She went to school, had friends, and was even looked up to. She definitely had a bright future ahead of her, having made school president during her senior year in high school. On top of that, she was the captain of the Kendo club.

However, a recent blood test had concluded that she was a viable subject for the Syndicate's Enhancement project. Considering her parents, however, it wouldn't be a simple task to get her to willingly submit to the project. However, one of the higher ups drew up a simple enough plan...

As Akemi began to walk home from school, she was gunned down in a drive by shooting. The Syndicate were quick to blame it on the Yakuza and, her parents not wishing to lose their daughter, were coaxed into allowing her body to be used for the project.

Enhanced humans are rare, even today, but the standard procedure included brainwashing the subject. For obvious reasons, this step had to be skipped. Akemi suffered some trauma, however, and had to undergo some psychiatric treatment. But even when she finally made a full recovery, her life was... basically ruined. She was legally pronounced dead, making her plans to attend college null and void.

All she had in her future now was the Syndicate, which she hadn't even realized had staged her death. Akemi Takenaka's normal life was gone. While she still goes by that name, she usually refers to herself by her new codename: Tsurugi.

So she took up the training with the Syndicate, pushing herself to learn the new limits of her body... so that she could take down the Yakuza that had allegedly ruined her life. Unlike most of the other that were enhanced and brainwashed, however, she proved herself to be a capable squad leader.

It was only recently that she was finally allowed to take to the field, when the Syndicate finally decided to make another move against the Hagino-gumi. The plan was to set up a false meeting under the guise of people interested in dealing with the Yakuza, in an attempt to draw out the leader so they could behead the organization. However, the Hagino-gumi caught wind of the fact that the Syndicate's interest in continuing their little battle, and organized a decoy. To make it appear that their attempt to throw them off worked, they sent Tsurugi along with Tsume, another enhanced, to lead a squad of soldiers to take on the decoy while another group was sent to deal with the leader.

However, the Hagino-gumi had gained unexpected reinforcements. While Tsurugi accomplished her mission in keeping the decoys busy, the leader managed to escape the trap alive.

Setting Information: Covered by Kazumi Hagino's profile.

Portal Location: In a small convenience store near her home.

2/2

[identity profile] syndicatedblade.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:

The face of Tsurugi that most people would see is that of a stoic individual. She's often rather serious in whatever it is she does, whether it's leading a squad of soldiers or attempting to cook. Even in casual conversation, most of the time, she's likely to speak with a serious demeanor. If she's talking with her parents or people she's somewhat close to, though, she will allow herself to relax.

If there's one word that had to be used to describe her, it would be 'dedicated'. If she puts her mind to something, she will do whatever she has to in order to ensure that the task is accomplished. She always feels that she needs to improve her fighting ability. No matter how much she improves in something, she will never be completely satisfied. On that note... her cooking is rather terrible and she's prone to cutting herself if she's chopping up something, but she'll keep trying for awhile until it's gone on too long and relying on something or somebody else for the meal.

Tsurugi is a capable leader of sorts, able to issue orders and lead a squad effectively. In the heat of battle she's able to make snap decisions to make the most of a situation. She can even handle administrative work fairly easily, given her experience as the student body president and some of the training given to her by the Syndicate. However, she has a bit of a hard time dealing with insubordination. She's confrontational about such actions and, if they argue back, might begin to lose her temper. However, she will eventually take it to a higher authority if it continues.

Though Tsurugi acknowledges the (made up) story that the Yakuza were responsible for her death, she usually doesn't let it cloud her judgment. She harbors a hatred towards them, yes, but more or less it is directed towards whomever actually gunned her down and the person that gave the order. That doesn't mean she won't view any of the Yakuza affiliation with some amount of disdain, however.

Despite all these personality attributes, Tsurugi is still a girl at heart. She has a weakness towards 'cute' things, such as plushies or other oddities. She certainly enjoys eating sweet foods, and is actually a bit sensitive concerning certain topics. Being called masculine or manly might get an odd reaction out of her, depending on the circumstances of the name calling. She's a little guarded about that side of herself, however, and anybody who blatantly points it out or catches her in the middle of anything relating to this will most likely result in a comedic situation with flailing and denials unless they're more subtle and empathetic about it.

Reason for Joining: Learning about the state of the multiverse, she isn't the type to just leave something like that alone if she can help. At the same time, once she learns that the Yakuza has a couple of people there, she'll have another reason in making sure they don't utilize CO's resources further against the Syndicate.

Position Desired: Enforcer. She more or less has had officer training before taking on her first assignment with the Syndicate.

Point in Canon: A week or two after the background described.

Gilgamesh | Fate/stay night | 1/3

[identity profile] laundry-day.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Riva
Character Name: Gilgamesh, Servant Archer, the King of Heroes, Fifth King of Uruk, Son of Lugalbanda 3rd King of Uruk and the goddess, Ninsun, Slayer of the Bull of Heaven, First Hero-King of Mankind...
Canon: Fate/stay night (Fate/Zero)

Background: First this happened (http://mcgoodwin.net/pages/otherbooks/gilgamesh.html). Upon his death, Gilgamesh’s soul was preserved by Akasha in the plane of existence now known as the Throne of Heroes, effectively becoming the very first human being to become a Heroic Spirit.

Millennia passed, and Gilgamesh was summoned as Servant Archer for the Fourth War for the Holy Grail by Tokiomi Tohsaka (http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Tohsaka_Tokiomi). Scorning the other Servants for both being a motley collection of mongrels and committing the unforgivable sin of not instantly recognising him upon his appearance, he nevertheless graciously consented to allowing Tokiomi to become his Master with the promise that the Holy Grail was a treasure that he did not yet possess. Of course, to the haughty King of Heroes, it already belonged to him, and tempting Tokiomi’s assistant, Kotomine Kirei, proved to be entertaining.

The treasure that Gilgamesh sought came unexpectedly, and it was not the Grail. Servant Rider -- Alexander the Great and one of the other two kings of the War, the King of Conquerors -- invited both Gilgamesh and the remaining king of the War -- the King of Knights, who had been summoned as the Servant Saber -- to a ‘Feast of Kings’ to gauge their intentions and test their resolve. Saber’s was interesting, indeed: she wished to undo her very legend, allowing a different king to take her place and thereby saving her country from destruction. As the King of Heroes later explained to Kirei,

"I, as a person, like arrogant opponents. People who are not constrained by their own humble strength, and so are ambitious. Every time when meeting an opponent like this I will be very happy.

"But there are two types of haughtiness too. The case in which the person has too low a caliber; and the case in which he has too great a wish. The former, not unusual one, is very foolish, but the latter is of a difficult-to-obtain, rare species...

"In comparison to mediocrity, this type of rare foolishness appears even more valuable, does it not? Though born human, but yet visionary of ideals so great that they are impossible to attain with human strength, and so abandon their status as a human to realize this one ideal—no matter how many times I see it I do not grow tired of it, the sorrow and despair of this sort of person."

And the First Hero-King of Mankind had finally found the last treasure worthy of his possession.

When at long last Gilgamesh faced Saber across the field of battle as the last two Servants remaining in the Holy Grail War, he made his offer: submit to him and become his queen, for there could be no greater honour and acknowledgement of her value than marriage to the first man to become a Heroic Spirit. Her sword answered for her, and he could not help but be delighted by her defiance.

But it was over all too soon; her Master ordered Saber to destroy the manifested Grail against her will through the use of a command seal... and Gilgamesh was directly under it. The corruption swallowed him whole, and would have driven him mad, but the King of Heroes proved too strong for even the tainted Grail. Instead of corrupting him, it gave him a true physical body so that he no longer needed a Master to anchor him to the physical plane. And while he still needed prana to use his abilities as a Servant, he no longer needed it to simply exist.

[http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Gilgamesh (http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Gilgamesh)]

Gilgamesh | Fate/stay night | 2/3

[identity profile] laundry-day.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Portal Location: Fuyuki Bridge -- This great suspension bridge is a modern marvel of engineering, and connects the Miyamachou and Shinto districts of Fuyuki City. It crosses the Miongawa, the river that bisects Fuyuki City in two. In addition to the main bridge for automobile traffic, there are smaller bridges that lie at either side of the bridge for pedestrian traffic.

Personality: Regal and haughty, Gilgamesh makes no effort to conceal his identity as the very same king of the famed epic. And as the first King to be praised this way as well as the first to become a Heroic Spirit, even now he commands the respect of all... and if not of their own free will, he is more than willing to make them.

What would otherwise be a self-confident, proud, enthusiastic, protective, good-humoured, and playful person has been twisted into an arrogant, selfish, possessive, and sadistic tyrant. While not without his good qualities, even they have become almost parodies of themselves; his passionate nature has been corrupted into hedonism, his persistence into obsession, his noble demeanour into despotism. Egocentric to the core, Gilgamesh sees himself at the very top of the hierarchy of mankind, and everyone else should be grateful they were able to bask in his presence even for a single moment in their pathetic lives.

Moreover, the humanity that Gilgamesh now sees has fallen far from the mighty kingdom he once ruled as far as he’s concerned. Unforgivable sin, greed, petty squabbling, and ugliness abound. Now, humankind is little more than a pestilence worthy of only his scorn, to be quashed and rebuilt with strong and beautiful people worthy of the King’s rule. But what the King of Heroes deliberately ignores is that the very things he despises in humanity, he possesses a thousand times over.

Yet, deep beneath the bravado lies the King of Heroes of old, a self that Gilgamesh hardly even remembers. Having fallen so far and been corrupted so thoroughly, this old self is constantly buried under his lust for treasure and power. Each action he takes, every treasure he seeks, is all done for the sake of avoiding an honest look at himself.

This is not to say that even the mighty First Hero-King of Mankind is without his weaknesses. Because of his arrogance, the only reason Gilgamesh is ever bested -- in spite of his personal might -- is because he refuses to take anyone seriously in battle. Believing that fighting seriously acknowledges the strength of his opponent, Gilgamesh would sooner suffer a crushing defeat than to ever use the full extent of his power. Naturally, no one can defeat mankind’s greatest king and to suggest otherwise is preposterous.

Finally, his pursuit to obtain the very last treasure in this foetid world worthy of his possession trumps all else. While this might have unfortunate side-effects to anyone working alongside him, a more subtle opponent could use this to his advantage.

Player Name: incardine
Character Name: Evangeline Atanashia Katerin McDowell
Canon: Mahou Sensei Negima

Background: Evangeline A.K. McDowell was turned into a vampire at the very young age of ten, in Ireland or Scotland... And never really got over it, to the point where she tends to use a fair portion of her magical power to make herself look like the adult she sees herself as likely to have become. It's not the vampire part she disliked, though; being able to live forever seems just fine by her, honestly, though she still killed the man responsible for it. In the process, she's also developed the talents of a Shinso vampire, becoming immune to the sunlight.

The real issue was that she assumed that vampires are Always Chaotic Evil. The real issue being, she was never really all that good at the whole being evil thing. Biting people to turn into her thralls, sure. Being extremely classy, with servants? Yes. Obsessively chasing after the one guy who went out of his way to save her life? Not exactly evil, and it bit her (pun intended) hard, as Nagi Springfield (not to be confused with his son Negi) wound up sealing her to not be able to leave the campus of Mahora Academy. (Admittedly, this is a very, very large campus, but STILL.) Oh, and he didn't even fight her to do it; no, he trapped her in a pile of garlic and leeks.

The only conditions that would let her leave? If Nagi released her (oh, and he's dead... as far as we know at least...), or she managed to drink Nagi's blood... Or, by the tradition of such curses, that of his son. Who, a long long time later, showed up to teach the exact class she was attending at the academy. Later, it turned out this was NOT a coincidence; class 2-A was meant to hold many of the odd cases of Mahora Academy, including Konoka (Granddaughter of the Dean, who himself is a rather powerful mage) and Setsuna (Konoka's bodyguard and now, in Netherworld at least, wife). She actually was fully aware of this, though; even the teacher before Negi was a talented magician, after all.

Evangeline immediately lept into action (and fell flat on her face... Several times...); with her servant, the robotic girl Chachamaru, she set up a plan to drink Negi's blood... Which wound up failing, and with Negi following in his father's footsteps and saving her from a fall that otherwise would have likely killed her. She gave up at that point, and from that page of the comic on has had to try and prove she's still evil and out for his blood. So far, no one buys it... Especially after she agreed to teach Negi the arts of Black Magic.

2/?

[identity profile] highondaylight.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and the grand irony? Before she had even executed the plan, while highly ill and half-asleep, Negi gave her some of his blood voluntarily. And the fee for the black magic teachings? More of it. She still hasn't broken the curse (or at least pretended she hadn't so that she didn't follow him to the Magical World).

As of the start of the Magic World arc onward, she's served no actual role except for the occasional exposition scene back at the Academy; an illusion of her (via a scroll she had left in the magical world) showed up to teach new techniques to Negi at one point, but it's not made clear if it has any actual connection to her - at the least, it couldn't know what she'd experienced after she scroll was made. This leaves her with some fake Chachamarus and a few other side characters to talk to, pretty much bringing her back to her defining state: sheer boredom.

Setting Information:

Earth/Magicus Mundus
Mahou Sensei Negima

Ability Changes: Pretty much any technological or magical ability is kosher here, though magic is never cast in English or Japanese, usually using latin or ancient greek. Super-strength and similar physical talents may be of magical or technological origin here, though. The series tends to obey shonen logic more than ordinary physics, so epicness does enhance power.
Ability Limitations: No significant limitations are in place, other than those necessary to preserve secrecy (even at the magic-infested Mahora Academy, there is a masquerade to maintain, you know).
Form Restrictions: On Earth, it's humans and robots only. In the Magic World, various nonhuman species can exist, including cat-people (of just-ears/tail and full-anthro sort), elves, demon-like humans, and the like. Oh, and talking Ermine Fairies (everyone mistakes them for ferrets or weasels though).
Social Restrictions: Magic remains a secret. Failure to preserve the secret requires memory erasure spells. Serious failure gets you turned into an Ermine Fairy for a varying length of time.
Notes: Most incidents in this world are likely to occur at or around Mahora Academy, a large-campus school (apparently all-women's) going from kindergarten to college and beyond... Where there's a lot of magical and high-tech things going on, and where the timeline's already a little wonky thanks to the efforts of one Chao Ling Shen.

Additional Information: http://negima.wikia.com/
Also note that it is implied that both Love Hina and A.I. Love You, also by Ken Akamatsu, are part of the canon.

Portal Location: Evangeline's house on the outskirts of campus has a portal hidden under her bed. It's possible that her one consistent servant, the robot girl Chachamaru, knows about it; however, at Eva's command, she would keep the secret, no matter what.

Personality: Link is overall a friendly kid. He's cheerful and energetic, almost to a fault, and a childhood in peaceful times has made him a bit naïve. He's a lot more mature than most children his age. Link is always polite and friendly, even to strangers, and he makes friends easily. He's also trustworthy and never turns his back on a promise or his friends. Link has a clear idea of good and evil, but he's always willing to forgive. He never lets initial impressions get in the way of accepting a good person as an ally. However, if someone does prove themselves to be truly evil, he won't hesitate to fight and defeat them.

Link is always willing to help someone out, no matter how menial or dangerous the task is. It could be something as mundane as giving people rides, or as dangerous as saving someone from a pirate’s lair. It could even be saving the world. No matter what the task, he’ll do it with enthusiasm, and he won't give up. He is surprisingly modest about what he accomplishes, simply seeing his actions as being a good person. This can make Link easy to manipulate; he’ll simply be too nice to say no to someone or won’t understand what’s happening until it’s too late.

Still, Link is smart, or at least he's observant. He’s able to spot the weak points of monsters and the solutions to complicated puzzles after some thought, and he can spot things which are significant and useful. What he can’t solve with his mind, he solves with sheer determination and willpower. Link possesses a great deal of courage, which allows him to face situations that other people might run from. Unfortunately, he’s also prone to being rash, and he'll never give up once he's set his mind to something. This has led to situations where he’s charged into obvious traps, expecting to get out okay and getting hurt in the process.

Reason for Joining: Link was convinced to join the agents, which wasn't that hard. He doesn't want to see New Hyrule destroyed. Or any other world, for that matter.

Position Desired: Agent

Point in Canon: After clearing the Fire Temple.

Nagae Iku ----> 1/2

[identity profile] legendarysakana.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Firefly
Character Name: Nagae Iku
Canon: Touhou Project

Background: http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Iku_Nagae

Setting Information: skip

Portal Location: In the clouds, in Gensokyo.

Personality: Iku is described as being 'lazy' in her personality information, but I assume it refers to how she is when she isn't carrying out her duties as a messenger of the dragons. It makes more sense that way, because when she's seen in SWR, she is trying to tell as much people as she can about an incoming earthquake. So, when she's on-job, she tends to work as as fast and diligently as she can, if the situation calls for it, while being able to do her job properly. In short, this means she also takes her job seriously. On or off her job, Iku appears to speak in a polite, refined manner that is befitting one who is associated with dragons.

She is said to be someone who doesn't take the lead role, which means that she would most likely prefer to leave the job of 'leader' to someone else. She would probably, if placed in a group, leave most of the leadership responsibilities and such to someone else. Of course, this does not mean she would opt out of the work, that is, if it was part of the job.

Iku's personality is described as laid-back and that she does not partake interest in anyone else's behavior, but it would be silly to think that it was so always. In fact, it could be that she's normally not interested in the affairs of others that she does not associate with at all. Otherwise, she would not have saw it fit to take matters into her hands, as it appears she has a sense of responsibility, when she found out Tenshi had caused trouble in SWR.

'She almost never insists upon her opinion' -- which could be interpreted as she doesn't usually make her opinion strongly known. Her preference to watch the ongoings and actions of people throughout the day can be attributed with the fact that her main hobby is swimming through the clouds. After all, even though she hardly makes contact with humans or most likely even other youkai she would have to occupy herself with something like that in order to not be bored in her free time.

Reason for Joining: To keep the worlds from collapsing.

Position Desired: Agent!

Setting Information:
World Name Human World and The Monster Realm
Canon Name Princess Resurrection

Ability Changes: Magic exists in this world, and is quite common among the monsters, so people with magic powers will not lose them. If you have any sort of special ability, you will not lose it. You may be branded as a witch or a monster by people who know of the monster realm. Werewolves in this world can change into any form at anytime.

Ability Limitations: In princess resurrection, we have seen Godzilla, a time traveling delorean, a ancient God, giant robots, and many other things with many different powers. You will have no ability restrictions.

Form Restrictions: There are no restrictions on forms, but you may be labeled as a human, robot, or monster, by residents of the monster realm.

Social Restrictions:The normal humans do not know about the monster realm, or any magic and other mystical things. There are hints that people high in the government work with the rulers of the monster realm to solve huge crises, like on time a zombie outbreak happened in the human world. Vampires and Werewolves are mortal enemies, and will fight each other at the drop of a hat. Any member of Royalty(like Hime and her siblings) is normally greeted with great respect and courtesy, as well as anyone working with them. However, there are people out to kill Royalty and their servants, so just being with a member could be dangerous.

Notes: If there was a movie with a monster in it, most likely the monster is a creature that lives in this world. Also, Mermen are friendly people that will give you tours, even in a desert.

Akira "Neko" Nekozawa AKA Main Character || SMT: Devil Survivor

[identity profile] nekotagonist.livejournal.com 2010-07-24 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Random AKA [livejournal.com profile] this_troper
Character Name: Akira "Neko" Nekozawa AKA Nekotagonist AKA The Main Character
Canon: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor

Background: Akira, nicknamed "Neko" as short for his family name, lived a fairly average life. The only real thing out of the ordinary in it being the death of his father's brother and sister-in-law in a car crash shortly before he was born, leading to his cousin, Naoya, coming to live with his family when he was seven years old. Akira's parents, wanting Naoya to feel welcome in their home and part of the family in light of his loss, raised the two as brothers. Naturally, the two became close as they grew up. A year prior Naoya got a job as an administrator in Tokyo proper and moved out of the house a year prior to the canon's events and fell out of contact with him due to what Akira assumed was work. He visited a few times, but there was only so much time they could spend together with Naoya working and Akira still in high school.

Which is why it came as a surprise when Akira was called and invited to the Aoyama district by Naoya. Not just him, but his two best friends: Atsuro, whom was often tutored by Naoya and considered himself his apprentice, and Yuzu, whom Akira had known since elementary school and often joked about being her boyfriend. The three of them went to Shinjuku where Naoya ran into Yuzu and handed her a trio of modified COMPs before disappearing in the crowd.

Then canon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_Survivor) happened (http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Devil_Survivor).

Setting Information:

Earth
Devil Survivor

Ability Changes: If you're human, you can only use your skills and powers if you have the aid of a modified COMP--a Nintendo DS portable communication device with a set of programs in it that make it possible to fight demons. This includes a harmonizing program that allows a normal human to withstand an attack from a demon and be strong enough to hurt them, placing them on the same playing field.
Ability Limitations: Humans lose their abilities, though if someone gains access to a COMP they can access elemental spells and the like. If the character has the ability to summon creatures and demons, they're limited to SMT-brand demons instead of the fare found in their proper canon.
Form Restrictions: Due to the demons currently running rampant, there's no restriction on forms. Depending on how things develop in the canon, this is subject to change.
Social Restrictions: Current area available is in the Yamanote Circle of Tokyo, Japan, which is in Lockdown. If you're a demon or appear to be a demon and ally yourselves with demons, expect backlash from the human population. People are caught up in a fight for their lives. Naturally they're going to be freaked out, scared, and mistrusting.

Rincewind

[identity profile] just-one-spell.livejournal.com 2010-07-25 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Prof
Character Name: Rincewind
Canon: Discworld

Background:
http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/Rincewind

Portal Location: Rincewind actually was transported out of (very) thin air somewhere off the edge of the world, but the portal ended up where he was supposed to turn up. So, a nook in a cave in the woods in the middle of nowhere.

Personality:
Rincewind is a wizard. Technically. Sure, he's not a very GOOD wizard. Okay, he may only know one spell. Which he's never cast. Basically, Rincewind is a complete failure of a wizard, but this doesn't stop him from considering himself to be at least loosely wizardesque, and trying to maintain some degree of according pride. He tries to follow wizardly traditions, and holds himself to wizard standards on everything other than that niggling little detail of being able to cast spells.

There's a reason for his wizarding incompetence, though, and its name is The Spell. When he was younger and dumber, Rincewind opened the world's most powerful magic tome on a bet, and one of the Great Eight Spells that wrought the world leapt from the book into the recesses of his brain. Other spells never stick in his mind because they're afraid of that one. Most of the time, this just makes his life passively more difficult, but during times of great trauma, peril, or general shittiness, The Spell has a tendency to try and get itself said. Nobody is sure what will happen if The Spell manages to take over his mind long enough to get all eight words yet (the most it's managed thus far is seven), but it's not something you'd want to observe from anywhere within a universe or two of Discworld.

While he is chiefly a wizard, Rincewind has a second proud occupation: Coward. He is firmly of the believe that he and Danger should be firmly separated by as much distance as humanly possible. Unfortunately, though, he leads an extremely danger-filled life, The Spell's protection being the only reason he's still alive at all. In tense situations, he's capable of a bit of unexpected ingenuity or sudden action, but usually adopts a strategy of going for whatever course of action he thinks is least likely to end in his grisly demise, dignity and principles be damned. He is not a hero, and he has no misconceptions about this fact. He expects the worst out of everything in life, because that's more or less what it's delivered to him for the past year or so without hesitation.

Despite his bitter cynicism, Rincewind does have a teeny tiny sentimental streak deep inside him. It takes him the better part of a year to ever acknowledge this fact, when he finally realizes that he dearly misses Ankh-Morpork after all of his adventuring. All the things that annoy him about it usually suddenly seem like unforgettable memories, wonderful and irreplacable parts of a normal, sane life, which is all he really wanted in the end. He also has a tendency to slowly and unwillingly develop actual friendships with the people around him, despite his relentless complaints.

Reason for Joining: He just fell off the world because of lethal overexposure to tourism. He's not in a huge rush to go back.

Position Desired: Agent

Point in Canon: He is, for the moment, cutting off from immediately after the end of the first book.

Setting Information: (It's the same world as Fate/stay Night, only a couple of years prior to the start of that series. I discussed this with a mod already... the world is the same as the Fate/Stay Night world with a few minor additions. The stuff bolded is pertinent to Arcueid's series.)

Earth
TYPE-MOON

Ability Changes: Abilities will come in the form of spell-casting powers, each Magus has a specialty of some kind (Shirou is 'swords' and Rin's is 'gems'). Servants are in a field of their own, corresponding to seven classes, and each individual servant has a powerful attack called a Noble Phantasm that is tied to their history. Vampires are vampires, demons are demons, but not without specific limitations unique to the Nasuverse.
Ability Limitations: Moderate, while Servant's Noble Phantasms are Earth-shattering, most Magus cannot create mass destruction without storing up their magic for a long time to unleash, and there is only one thing in the entire world that is earth-shattering. Vampires, demons, and the undead will need an extensive supply of mana to be able to function; most monster-types must suck blood as a result.
Form Restrictions: Human, and servant only under very exact circumstances. Vampires will remain vampires, only with very Nasuverse-like (http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Vampires) attributes. The same goes for demons and other assorted non-humans. Consult the Wikia (http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Nasuverse) for specifics.
Social Restrictions: Magus are regulated by the Magic Association, who crack down heavily on overt displays of power and careless involvement of civilians in Magical wars. Supernatural creatures (such as vampires, demons, the undead) are hunted down and eliminated by the Church, so non-humans should try to keep a low profile.

Arcueid Brunestud 2/2

[identity profile] phantasmed.livejournal.com 2010-07-27 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Arcueid is a very simple and minimalistic person. She was created for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill "fallen" True Ancestors and Dead Apostles, vampires who have tasted blood and will stop at nothing to taste it again. It's unnecessary for her to learn anything "extra" since she is a weapon, and when we first meet her this is proved by her naivete and overall ignorance of social norms and the complexities/conveniences of modern living. For example, she uses packing tape to dress a rather grisly wound at the start of the game before Shiki shows her how to tend to it properly. In most cases, Shiki is the one to correct her and educate her on things she is ignorant about.

Before Shiki (and after the demise of the True Ancestors), Arcueid led a lonely existence centered around one goal: to kill the Dead Apostle Roa, who manipulated her into becoming a "fallen" True Ancestor 800 years prior and as such, stole some of her power. Roa developed the ability to continuously reincarnate after each death. Arcueid spends nearly an entire generation asleep and wakes once he has gained enough power to take over his next vessel. Each time she awakens in a new era, she never learns more than is necessary to function on a basic level. In Shiki's time, this creates many conflicts since Arcueid has the knowledge of living but not the experience.

A whimsical and selfish person, her childishness is a result of her upbringing. Arcueid has had very little experience interacting with others and has only had to take care of herself during the short periods she was awake. Only a small handful of years were spent alive while the other 700-plus were spent in hibernation at her castle. We learn from Ciel that she never even spoke during that time because talking was a useless addition to a "weapon"-- one does not add useless features to a machine with a single purpose. That she would begin speaking after meeting Shiki shows a drastic change in her character. Arcueid went from being a weapon designed to kill to a young woman trying to enjoy being alive, something that she had never done before.

After meeting Shiki (the only person able to kill her, ironically enough) Arcueid even learns from him how to enjoy things that are mundane to a being with eternal life. She begins looking forward to each day awake and expresses sadness knowing she will have to fall asleep once again and miss out. After all, falling into semi-eternal slumber would mean never seeing Shiki again, the only person she has ever cared for.

Reason for Joining: Some corporate douchebag shanghai'd her into it, promising her impossible things for her assistance.

Position Desired: Agent. I would have gone with Enforcer or even Councilor given the fact that she is her own self-contained army, but she's just too dang lazy/ADD for anything that requires a lot of responsibility.

Point in Canon: After the events of Tsukihime/Melty Blood.

Notes: DERP.

Eirin App 1/?

[identity profile] udonge-trainer.livejournal.com 2010-08-02 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Rift
Character Name: Eirin Yagokoro
Canon: Touhou Project

Background: http://touhou.wikia.com/wiki/Eirin

Setting Information: Gensokyo’s already very represented.

Portal Location: In a corner of her pharmacy, which she stumbled into while organizing her things.

Personality: Eirin’s most defining characteristic is her intelligence, which is far above average. She has a great love of learning as well as teaching, and has an almost insatiable hunger for knowledge. As a result, she particularly likes conducting research and experiments, and can sometimes get a bit carried away… (although not to the ridiculous extent it’s sometimes portrayed). While she dabbles a bit in all the different areas of learning, she is primarily interested in the hard sciences, particularly those with medical applications. She prides herself on her pharmaceutical knowledge, often creating new and wondrous (also strange) medicines and drugs. While she does this mainly to help others, sometimes she gets a bit carried away and loses sight of her original goal.

Eirin is also fiercely loyal and caring. Her relationship with her princess, Kaguya, transcends most conventional relationships. She is Kaguya’s most loyal vassal, but also her dearest friend. It would be no exaggeration to say that Eirin would do anything for Kaguya, as long as she believed it was in Kaguya’s best interest. Over time, her inner circle has expanded to include her pupil, Reisen, as well as her friend and ally, Tewi. She’ll do whatever it takes to protect those close to her, prizing them above all else. She’s not above tricking and manipulating others to achieve these ends, although she’ll never go as far as to place people in danger unnecessarily. Despite fleeing the moon long ago, she also maintains connections to her former pupils there, and keeps an active interest in the events that play out there. While the denizens of the moon are technically her enemies, as they would do anything to find her and Kaguya, she nonetheless still cares for their well-being and does what she can to help them from afar.

While her underlying personality is kind and caring, she also has a playful and mischievous side. She’s lived a very long time, and does what she can to entertain herself. She enjoys teasing others and gauging their reactions, although she is quick to apologize if she goes a little too far. While originally upon arriving on the Earth from the Moon, she was rather impatient and dismissive of the inhabitants of the Earth, over time she’s grown to appreciate and respect them. She originally did not care much for the Earth rabbits that serve Eientei, but she’s grown to have a certain affection for them; although she never shows it directly, she often makes decisions for their well-being. At the same time, she still has a knack for being a bit impatient when others cannot keep up with her. She can also come off as a bit narcissistic, as she clearly regards herself quite highly.

On the other hand, those who cross her or endanger those she cares about will face an entirely different kind of creature. Her kind and generous nature reversed, as well as her boundless intellect, combine to make her into a particularly ruthless and calculating opponent. It is said that her mere presence would drastically alter the balance of power on the moon for a reason. She often moves several steps ahead of her opponents, masterfully guiding the people around her like pawns. At the same, perhaps one of her weaknesses in that respect is the fact that she genuinely does care about her “pawns”, and won’t willingly place them in danger. Nonetheless, to put it lightly, she is a very formidable foe. If you face her, you’re more likely to find an arrow in your back unexpectedly rather than one coming at you from ahead.

Eirin App 2/?

Reason for Joining: After discovering something like CO, Eirin’s curiosity and thirst for knowledge wouldn’t allow her to do anything but join.

Position Desired: Enforcer – Eirin is a masterful tactician, with plenty of experience as a leader. While in recent years, she has secluded herself as much as she can from conflict, she is something of a legend on the Moon for her military prowess and might. While some might even say she would qualify as a Councilor, she prepares not to take center stage, instead guiding events to her liking from behind the scenes.

Point in Canon: Post UNL. Generally, the same point in canon that all the other Touhou characters come from.

The only notable piece of background given about Atsuro before the events of canon are that his parents left him at home a lot while they worked in Silicon Valley, meaning that he ended up spending most of his time online on the Internet in various forums and the like. This was presumably also the reason why he became such a tech geek.

Setting Information: The app for Akira Nekozawa covered it pretty well.

Portal Location: Since Tokyo is in lockdown and since this app comes so shortly after Akira's and since the two characters never leave each other's sides in canon (almost literally; Atsuro is the one party member you're guaranteed to have), is it possible for Atsuro to have gotten bored of waiting for Akira to finish using the bathroom and have followed him in? If not, Atsuro's portal will be in Aoyama outside Naoya's apartment.

Personality: Here we go! Atsuro is the quintessential tech geek. Where other kids had fun playing outside or going shopping or whatever it is that kids do, Atsuro cheerfully stayed inside fiddling around on his computer and on the Internet all day. He doesn't even seem to find anything wrong with it -- To him, it's as natural to breathe as it is to check his email, chat on messenger, and frequent forums. This is most probably because his parents left him alone a good deal of the time when he was younger. The Internet provided him with the company and the friendship that any child seeks, and as a result, Atsuro and computers became irrevocably intertwined.

This is not to say that Atsuro has no social skills, however. As a matter of fact, out of all the characters in Devil Survivor, the player sees the most of his real life friends -- He forms a Power Trio with Yuzu and the MC, happens to be the Number One Apprentice of Naoya the Legendary Super Hacker, was childhood friends with Keisuke, was a former student of Mari's, and is distantly acquainted with the gang leader, Nikaido, or at the very least, knows of him where the others don't. Atsuro's behavior is also quite typical for a teenager's. He laughs a good deal, jokes around a lot, and is generally an all-around well-adjusted and fun-to-be-around guy. He just happens to cheerfully slip in things that are exceptionally nerdy, like, "Oh, man, I was so bored that I spent all of last week on the Internet" or "Dude, did you see the new iPod I've totally got the code half-cracked already won't be long til I'm homebrewing some software."

[identity profile] demon-hacker.livejournal.com 2010-08-02 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
General observations concerning his ability to make friends -- Atsuro is extremely loyal. He trusts in the MC's decisions no matter what, regardless of whether he decides to become the Chosen Prophet of God or the Evil Demon Lord or whatever the heck else the player decides. Perhaps this is a reflection on his younger days. He may have found it difficult to make friends as a child and as a result, clings to his close ones no matter what they may do. Atsuro also has the unfortunate tendency to tease and joke a little too much. His jokes go too far (as in the case of Yuzu's despised nickname), and he never seems to realize it until he's called out. When that does happen, however, he apologizes immediately and sees his wrongs.

At the beginning of the game, which is where I'm taking him from, Atsuro probably keeps the most upbeat outlook of the three. While Yuzu is panicking and screaming constantly and the MC occasionally struggles with doubts and anxieties (if you pick those dialogue choices), Atsuro is always the one laughing and reassuring that everything will be alright. Secretly, he thinks the demons are kind of cool and that the COMPs are amazing. Despite this, though, he is, of course, still anxious about what's going on. He just does a better job of hiding it. It may be a bit of a stretch to say that this is also because his parents didn't do a very good job raising him. Since he largely had to take care of himself, Atsuro has become an extremely competent young man who is, in even in a life and death situation, mostly calm and reliable.

Reason for Joining: His world is being invaded by demons right now. Stay in lockdown'd Tokyo filled with rioting people and attacking monsters or stay in what amounts to a massive hotel. Hm.

Position Desired: Agent.

Point in Canon: Day One, right before sleeping.

Notes: Atsuro is very liable to begin hacking Planeo's computer systems and communication devices. I may need to know more about how they work and if he has permission to fool around with anything.

[personal profile] first_scorned 2010-08-04 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Background Cont'd:

? ? ?

In the beginning, so says the Old Testament, Adam was created. And after his first wife split, Eve was made from his rib. ... Or so they say. So that Man would not be lonely, he had Woman beside him. Not long after, they found themselves out of Eden and on Earth with all the other life, so says Christianity. Whatever really happened and when, in these early days nearly 6,000 years ago, this was a long time before Naoya was born.

... Or was it? As the legend goes, Adam's wife had Cain, then Abel... and dispute what you will, but of everything to be taken with a grain of salt, this part of the testament is not to be taken lightly. Naoya knows this because he is the first Son of Man. He is Cain. Not was, not once had been at some point... is. One day He wanted a showing from Adam's sons to determine who's offer was more worthy. Cain was a farmer; Abel was a Shepherd. Abel offered God his finest lamb, and Cain his best food. In the end, it's said that He chose the younger Abel's food over Cain's. The eldest sibling was not happy about this; he endlessly worked on tilling the earth and bringing it's riches as his reward. All his younger brother did was watch over a flock. What happened in between, how it happened, or why is debated. What is known is the result... and so the first murderer and the first martyr were born. Cain killed Abel--why? No one knows. Jealousy, rage, anger... it's hard to say. Most likely, for Naoya, it was an accident. The God he had loved had betrayed him, and his little brother did not deserve such praise, after all, but that is only the tip of the iceberg for the incident; whatever happened truly may never be known.

Once the deed was done, God came to Cain and questioned him: "Where is your brother, Abel?" And Cain replied, "Am I my brother's keeper? I do not know."

But God knew. He knew what he had done. And thus, as a penance for his sin, he punished Cain, thrusting a Mark of his deed upon him: he would remember every lifetime he had, each reincarnation, and would forever walk the earth. Adam wept and Cain left, becoming a migratory nomad...

Present: Twenty-Four years ago

Naoya is born to his parents, in Japan. At an early age, the young child loses them in a car crash, and as a result, goes to live with related family around the age of seven. Presumably, Akira is already born by the time he goes to live with his cousin's family. The two grow up together--if a few years apart. Naoya shares a lot of similarities with his young cousin, mostly looks, but there's one big difference, of course: he was born with red eyes and very pale skin... also pale, white hair. An albino, if you would call him such. He also happened to have bad eyesight, and had been wearing glasses from an early age.

Eventually, as the two grow together, they become rather close. Naoya is like a brother to his cousin (the MC), and vice versa. He molds the boy to trust him implicitly, who frequently finds solace from arguing parents in his older cousin's words. Although Naoya is not the most emotional person, he stays with the boy as long as he can afford to. But eventually, he must move out, and becomes a programmer. Hired by the Shomonkai, he moves to Aoyama after the age of twenty or so, and has lived there since. From his family's point of view, there is nothing odd about this.

Akihiko Sanada 1/2

[identity profile] hurricane-chris.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Chris
Character Name: Akihiko Sanada
Canon: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3

Background: http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Akihiko_Sanada

Setting Information: Already given.

Portal Location: Alleyway behind Port Island Station

Personality: The primary focus in Akihiko's life is to get stronger. This goal is what drives him to compete in boxing, and later, to join S.E.E.S. The motivation for this can be summed up in three words: Dead Little Sister. After Miki's death, Akihiko swore to become strong enough to protect anybody who couldn't fend for themselves. He stuck to this goal for ten long years.

Eventually, however, Akihiko learned that there was more than strength involved in whether or not someone lived. It took the death of his old friend to show him that sometimes you just couldn't stop someone from being hurt or killed, regardless of how strong you are. Akihiko accepts this but continues to make himself stronger regardless. Even if he can't always save someone, he will do his best to protect those he can.

Part of this is just Akihiko's sheer level of commitment. Whenever Akihiko commits to something, he goes all the way. He stuck to his objective to get stronger for ten years, and it shows -- he's captain and ace of the boxing team, he maintains an impressive GPA, and he's a powerful Persona-user. Then, on the day of Shinjiro's memorial service at school, Akihiko spends some time talking to his old friend, and takes his survival as evidence that he still has a job to do. This renews his vigor, and his Persona changes to reflect his renewed resolve. He's also among the members of S.E.E.S. to have the least doubts about The Fall -- he wants to fight, despite Ryoji insisting that Nyx cannot be defeated -- and he eventually learns to live with the protagonist's sacrifice and move on with his life, and does so without looking back.

Akihiko's drive to better himself hasn't done a whole lot for his social life, though. He tends to be awkward in social situations, especially around women. He has a lot of fangirls at school because of his combination of good looks and boxing skill, but he has the tendency to give them the cold shoulder, though this is due in part to him realizing that these girls are too caught up in appearances. But even when he deals with girls who either don't know or aren't impressed with him, he struggles. This is most apparent on the beach trip, where he accompanies the male protagonist and Junpei on "Operation Babe Hunt." Akihiko has a tendency to be reluctant to speak and to ramble on about sports-related things (he tried talking to a pair of girls about triathletes who train at the beach, for example), which just screams "lack of confidence." He comes across every bit as unappealing as Junpei and his cheesy pickup techniques. The only girls he doesn't do this around are Mitsuru and Yukari, and he's known the former for three years while the latter shares the power of Persona and the ordeal he has to face.

Akihiko is also a health nut and extremely competitive. He talks about sports a lot, is disappointed there's nothing at the beach he can use for a swim marker, bemoans the lack of footage of the training the actors did for a wire-fu movie, and flat-out demands the male protagonist tell him and Junpei who was more responsible for the failure of Operation Babe Hunt. And if you pick that neither was more responsible, Akihiko replies with, "It's either him or me! I won't take any other answer!" Oh, and did I mention that he's the only S.E.E.S. member who actually looks forward to the full moon? Because he is.

And there's one thing Akihiko fears -- Mitsuru. Early in the game, every time Akihiko wants to get into the action, Mitsuru reminds him that he's wounded and asks if he's trying to make her angry. This prompts Akihiko to immediately shut up. Then, when he found out that Mitsuru was one of the girls who entered the hot spring while the guys were still in there, he freaked out over the mere thought of facing Mitsuru's execution.

All in all, though, Akihiko is a good guy. A bit socially awkward, but you'll be hard-pressed to meet a more driven guy.

Suzu Fujibayashi 1

[identity profile] sweet-shuriken.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Ruki
Character Name: Suzu Fujibayashi
Canon: Tales of Phantasia

Background: Tales wikia link (http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Suzu)

Setting Information:

World Name Aselia
Canon Name Tales of Phantasia

Ability Changes: Mana (http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Mana) generated from the World Tree Yggdrasill (http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/The_World_Tree) is the source of all magic in the land. It is healthy at this time, thankfully.
Ability Limitations: No limitations.
Form Restrictions: The main sentient races are humans, elves, and half-elves. Anything else are monsters.
Social Restrictions: Mass prejudice against half-elves for no apparent reason, though they are very skilled at magic. Elves keep to themselves, secluded in the Ymir Forest, and humans are everywhere else.
Notes: There are Summon Spirits floating around, but one requires to be a legitimate Summoner in order to contract them, and by 'legitimate', in the sense that one needs to beat them in combat and possess the right item of the pact in order to establish one.
Additional Information: The World of Aselia (http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Aselia). There is also a sword that can travel through time lying around somewhere, for those interested.

Portal Location: At the base of the exact tree where Suzu first met Cless' party, in order to take them to the hidden ninja village inside Treantwood.

Personality:

Suzu is, first and foremost, a child who couldn't be a child. Despite being 11 when the event of "Tales of Phantasia" occurred, Suzu is, at first sight and even beyond, extremely mature. Strictly disciplined, of few words, and very composed, she can well behave as someone twice her age. That is easily explained by her background; born to be the next chief of Japoni, she went through harsh and severe training, both physical and mental, ever since she was a child. Taught to commit otherwise heinous acts as long as it is for her village, and raised with the credo that one must shed aside all emotion when performing a task ordered by the master, she was forced to cut out her emotions and try as hard as she could to be a perfect, cold, and ruthless killer, as being a ninja would require of her. She may not have that many responsibilities pile on her yet, but she is fully aware of the full weight of everyone's expectations of her, for she will one day lead the village that taught her. Pressured to excel and be as flawless as she can to abide by the codes of Japoni, she had no choice but to shut down her heart of a child, and take up the mannerisms of an adult.

Suzu, however, is also a child who couldn't help being a child. These obligations still could not change who she was. No amount of teaching and training could equal experience, so when she was sent out on a serious and crucial mission to gather intelligence on why a large number of skilled ninjas of her village, including both her parents, disappeared, she was badly outmatched by adults who were far more seasoned to battles. She was found injured and losing when the party first came across her in Volt's Cave, when she fought people from her own clan, after being unable to reason with them due to Dhaos' brainwash. She is also hard on herself for her failures: knowing that her parents' death were in part her own fault, caused by her inability to resolve the incident that claimed so many of her own people by herself, she refuses to enter Euclid castle every time the party goes there, preferring to stay outside and wait. With the lack of skits in earlier Tales games, there is little material to go off for Suzu's personality, but her childish heart still showed through, when she finally took the party to the hidden village to meet her grandfather. There, she showed emotion and rashly expressed her concerns for her fellow villagers, only to be quietened by her grandfather, and chided for her excitability. She tried to live up to the role of an adult thrust upon her in times of disaster, but in the end, she was just a little girl who could have used a friend like anyone else.

Suzu Fujibayashi 2

[identity profile] sweet-shuriken.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
It is hinted canonly that she has a light crush on Cless, but I'll also include here some of my headcanon. Japoni was already a very secluded village, so its people must've been close, but even then, I picture Suzu to have had a rather lonely childhood. She would certainly be allowed to play with the other kids, but Japoni wasn't a big place, and on top of there probably not having a lot of children her age to begin with, she was also going to become chief the moment she was born. That kind of status would probably erect an invisible barrier between her and the rest of the populace as well: no one would fault her for her lack of abilities, seeing that she was still so young, but a distance of respect would probably be kept, towards the daughter of the current chief of the village.

That is why Cless' party might be the first people to have taken her in and not treated her as such. Chester lost his little sister Ami when Toltus was sacked, so it's possible that he saw this new young girl as a surrogate little sister. Mint is motherly in nature, so she could've acted as a kind aunt/older sister figure. Klarth's the old man, but funny enough, they could have some hilarious snark, seeing that Suzu may behave even more maturely than Klarth, the oldest of the party, and as for Arche...

Bubbly and upbeat, she may be Suzu's first true friend. Together, they've taught her that steeling your heart and doing your best alone can do only so much, but together with friends and fueled by your passions, one can achieve so much more. It's with them that she mellowed out more to be the young girl that she truly is, and it is during these travels that she understood the importance to strike a balance between emotion and discipline.

So even when her parents' deaths greatly affected her, Cless and company taught her to move on and grow. She wasn't alone, and it was also with her friends' support that she managed to clear the coming-of-age ritual to establish herself as a full-fledged ninja. Sure, she still had to stick by the codes of her village, but that didn't change the fact that she can't eat spicy food for jack, and has a hidden deredere for sweets. She's doing her best to optimize both sides, but she's not quite there yet: her emotions still get the better of her occasionally, driving her to make rash statements; when caught on a slip-up, she's likely to stutter, and when her guard is down, her fidgeting would easily give her away. Regardless, all in all, Suzu would fit the kuudere archetype well, which is why once she loosens, she makes a very good deadpan loli - that and little miss snarker, your mileage may vary.

...Okay I'll stop quoting TV Tropes. |D; The "Viva Tales Of" and "Tales of Fandom II" really reflect this. Being able to put up a perfect lineface also means that for a little girl, Suzu has already attained a perfect poker face. It allows her to say hilarious things without changing expression ("Old people smell." ...Poor Klarth?), and no one can tell if she really meant it as a joke, or was perfectly serious. ...Probably a bit of both. She also tends to do this more around friends; she can pull Arche's leg too if she tries, just because of norm, she's always so serious. Proven by Tales of Fandom II, when Arche insisted on Suzu giving her ninja training, and the little kunoichi shamelessly made cracks aiming to break Arche's concentration when she's meditating, such as mentioning melon bread, Arche's favorite food, to make her react. After many failures, she goes so far as to tell Arche that she is hopeless in becoming a ninja, but she can be one if she manages to pass one final trial: to walk on water! ...Which Arche tries and then fails miserably, only to have Suzu comment to herself on the background that of course this would happen; walking on water is impossible, after all. :| Either way, especially after the growth that she has experienced post-game, Suzu has learned to relax a little and crack a few jokes, though it may just be unfortunate for her friends that her way of teasing the people that she cared about is by way of deadpan snark/sarcasm. She even managed to 1up Jade when he asked her to go out for Curry, intentionally or not, and doing that to Jade Curtiss is definitely a feat, no matter who you are.

Player Name: Badge
Character Name: Phoenix Wright
Canon: Ace Attorney

Background: This would be the best one, or at least the most succinct. (http://www.court-records.net/chara-phoenix.htm)

Setting Information: See the description for Edgeworth's world. All world information is already provided via his application.

Portal Location: The bathroom in his office. Damnit.

Personality: Phoenix's primary motivation has always been "friends," but a few years of serious defense attorney work has added "truth" and "justice" to his motivating vocabulary. He's still very slow to pick up jobs unless wheedled into it, and especially in cases where he doesn't in good faith think he could defend the person, but he's slowly getting into the work for the work itself. Which is good, considering that his current business practices barely keep his head above water in spite of the fact that he's actually in pretty high demand due to his track record.

Another thing that's built up over the years is a general cunning to his methodology; the more he's worked, the more he's developed a capability to trap people in their own lies. Naturally, this means that he's had to become significantly less naive about his outlook in life, but he's still headstrong with a bad habit of rushing into things without thinking, especially when the lives of his friends are at stake. His natural tendency is to be very emotional, though that too he has begun to learn how to curb. In another time and space, he would have been the hot-blooded hero saving the day from the demon lord; here, he's just saving people from a law system more concerned with results than truth.

Phoenix isn't really a physical fighter at heart; he hates guns, and a good punch or two will drop him fairly quickly. He can also be sort of a stick in the mud, though he often lets himself get dragged into doing things, snarking about it mentally all the while. But he's probably the best friend anybody could ever hope for, and if he likes you, he won't stop fighting for you until he's run out of any possible avenues to defend you. This is, after all, the Mia Fey method of defense, and one which he has taken to heart. Phoenix may drag his feet at times, but he's a good person at heart, and someone you want to have by your side -- while simultaneously ensuring you're not against him. Because he makes a great friend, but an even more fearsome enemy, even if he doesn't look it.

Reason for Joining: It takes some wheedling, but an explanation of the gravity of the situation -- not to mention the revelation that EDGEWORTH, of all people, is also employed here -- will pretty much ensure he sticks around. He's got a world to defend, after all.

Position Desired: Agent, more than likely.

Point in Canon: Post Game 3. And forever post game 3.

Notes: Phoenix's only ability comes in the form of the magatama, which he uses to uncover secrets. The magatama, to accommodate the nature of LJ RP, is significantly nerfed; read the pinned post on Phoenix's LJ for more information on this. Suffice to say, it is no longer an automatic success, as this has proven in the past to be rather godmoddy. Note also that while Game 4 is not taken into consideration, one element of game 4 is: there are some locks, marked as black locks, that Phoenix will never be able to open. Period.

Alice (RO) 1/3?

[identity profile] kills-litterers.livejournal.com 2010-08-09 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Floogy
Character Name: Alice
Canon: Ragnarok Online

Background:
Alice was born in the city of Geffen, in a relatively normal family. Her father was a merchant, while her mother merely took care of Alice and her brother. Alice was the youngest sibling, and as such was subject to the random whims of her elder brother whenever he felt like asserting his authority over her while their mother wasn't around.

One fateful evening, while their parents went out for a night on the town while entrusting their children to a friend, Alice's brother convinced (or, rather, bullied) her to explore the dangerous ruins of Glast Heim. Surely all the tales of monsters and such were only fabrications to make the passing by adventurer seem heroic, right?

The ruins seemed to be empty at first, but the under-prepared duo was soon beset by the denizens of Glast Heim. Alice was taken away, and she would never learn the fate of her brother. Was he prepared as a meal, merely killed and left somewhere, or...?

After some time, the fact she even had a human family would be forgotten as Alice found herself being raised by those that resided within the ruins. There was... something strange about her that they just were unable to treat her like they did all the others that intruded on their territory. They taught her how to fight and everything else she needed to do to survive in their environment.

Somewhere along the way, one of them had the bright idea of dressing her up in a maid outfit and giving her an enchanted broom (not a flying one, sadly) that had been lying around. Her past life in human civilization forgotten by now, Alice was more than happy to take up the broom and help her newfound “family” keep Glast Heim clean... … which, well, was rather impossible since she was the only one that bothered with it. How did Alice suddenly become possessed with maid-like mannerisms, including the polite bowing...? Simple: The broom was subtly cursed to inspire this sort of behavior in its wielder.

The one monster that Alice has grown closest to is a cat-like monster known as Wildrose. They have formed such a bond that the maid is able to summon the creature to her aid whenever she is in danger... or if she just wants a cat around to pet.

Another monster she was relatively close to was one Owl Baron, a creature of intelligence that makes its home in Glast Heim. It educated her on a few things, such as basic writing and arithmetic. However, whether it knew anything about the world outside of Glast Heim or not, the Owl Baron never spoke a word to Alice about it.

Portal Location:
A random doorway on the first floor of Glast Heim.

Alice (RO) 2/3

[identity profile] kills-litterers.livejournal.com 2010-08-09 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Personality:
First and foremost, Alice is exceedingly polite; which might surprise one considering she was mostly raised by monsters. However, besides the influence from her broom, the fact that she was surrounded by monsters most her life is the very reasoning behind it: Even if they took her in, she is still just a human. They didn't exactly raise her entirely gently, but not enough to make her run away. Although the monsters never attacked her outright, there was enough of a vague hostile atmosphere to make her watch herself and her manners. At present time, she'll be polite to just about anything, unless she is clearly threatened and/or forced to defend herself.

However, she is protective of those she cares about. This is clearly shown when any unwelcome heroes enter Glast Heim. Though she can fight abnormally well for somebody with just a broom (enchanted or not), under normal circumstances she would rather do what she can to assist her allies behind the frontlines by healing them and disrupting any spells that the enemies might be attempting to employ on themselves to boost their combat capabilities. Alice can get rather emotional in a losing battle, literally breaking down into tears and apologizing to those who were depending on her when/if she's defeated before teleporting away. This shows that, deep down, she is something of a coward who won't throw away her life in a battle.

Alice isn't really affected by 'cute things', though she does have a love of cats and cat-like creatures. This is mostly shown through her cat-like companion 'Wildrose'. Though the cat itself will do whatever it takes to defend Alice when summoned for such a duty, Alice will do whatever she can to ensure its survival. Chances are, if a dog were to ever play off the stereotype of chasing a cat, Alice would begin to have a dislike of canines. As there's nothing dog-like in Glast Heim, she doesn't even know what a dog is (at the time of this application, anyway).

Being that it's the one thing she does constantly in Glast Heim, Alice has an obsession with keeping things nice and clean. Even if a place is hopelessly beyond repair, she will do her best to tidy up the place unless there are clearly more pressing matters. Fortunately, as her broom is enchanted, her preferred tool never requires any sort of maintenance. Alice can be perfectly content with sweeping all day if she could, claiming that it's a rather relaxing activity for her. That's not to say she doesn't cook, though.

Having basically forgotten her life in Geffen, Alice can be considered a rather ignorant. What she knows of the world outside of Glast Heim is very little. Her lack of knowledge also makes her come off as ditzy at times, as things that others would take for granted... she simply wouldn't have a clue what they're talking about and will most likely question them about it.

For all her cowardice and polite behavior, she does possess a berserk button. She won't stand for anybody littering thoughtlessly or causing messes. She will most likely scold the offender in question, though anything that's obviously aimed to anger her... will have the intended effect. Worse case scenario, she'll actually attack the person trying to provoke her. However, this doesn't override her cowardice if anybody is to defeat her while she's angered.

Reason for Joining: Alice is... not one with a normal personality. Having suddenly popped into CO, and considering she doesn't even remember how she began to live at Glast Heim, she'll consider that this is a new place that requires her maid duties and other abilities.
